Positive: This is definitely the best hotel I have been in my life (apart from that time I was given a room in a 5 stars hotel due to an airplane issue). Room in perfect Japanese style: futons, sliding paper doors, etc. And most of all a mega screen, couch and Super Nintendo in the room! Not to mention 3 onsen bathtubs available and a recreational common room with PlayStation and other games. Fantastic.

Negative: As advertised, breakfast is strictly Japanese traditional, which is not entirely ideal for me (while my wife was happy about it, as whe wolfed down fish, soup etc). Only after eating it, we were also offered a coupon for a cafeteria in town, but at that point it was too late. If I can give a piece of advice, they could mention the possibility of this coupon directly in the website, as an alternative to the traditional breakfast.

Summary: Fantastic experience. If you want to relax and forget about your cares, come here.

Positive: The room was extremely neat and comfortable. The baths were super relaxing and the leisure room was fun and cozy. We stayed here as a road trip stopover, we regretted only staying one night!

Negative: Nothing we didn’t like!

Summary: Out of all places we stayed in Japan, we would come back here again and again!

Positive: We upgraded to the Annex twin room, and it was highly worth it! I would describe it as a little town house with two levels. The main floor had a small living room, private onsen bath with a shower head next to it, and a vanity sink area. Upstairs was a loft-style bedroom with two full-size beds and a toilet room. The living room had an old-school Nintendo which my husband loved. We had breakfast in the hotel one morning which was very authentic Japanese style. The staff were very friendly and kind. The walk to the main area of town wasn't bad at all, although it is a bit hilly if you have any mobility concerns.

Negative: My husband has a size 12 shoe, and there weren't really shoes to fit him at the main hotel area. But the staff were very apologetic and kind. I think anyone over 6'2" will have trouble finding clothes and shoes to fit them!

Positive: Love the retro vibes of this stay. The quadruple room came with a super famicom so that was fun to play! We also really appreciated the staff accommodating to our meal request, and their overall friendliness! The dinner and breakfast was really delicious and comes with a lot of food, plus free rice refills! Although there’s no public onsen, we actually really preferred the private ones - my favorite was the wood one because it smells like hinoki!

Negative: It isn’t as close to the main parts of Kusatsu as other stays, but it is still a walkable distance! You do have to climb uphill both ways.

Summary: Great family stay!
