What Our Guests say 500 + Reviews

Apr 3, 2015 11:41:23 AM
Summary: I'm not sure why there hasn't been a current review of this property but since there hasn't I feel compelled to do so. We stayed in the Ulysses unit with another couple for a week in Sept. '14. The unit was awesome! This 800+ year old property has been impeccably restored right down to the high end multi feature windows. The view of the pool and hillside from our room was amazing!! Diana and Alberto are wonderful hosts, offering a host of recommendations for places to visit and eat (even assisting with reservations), not to mention the fact that they had supplies in the kitchen and a home baked pastry for us upon arrival. After a few days in Rome, this quaint countryside was a wonderful contrast. There are many places to visit within a quick drive, including Assisi. It was so fun to grab some local food to cook in the villa and enjoy on the extensive patio overlooking the valley. Wine and cheese by the pool at sunset was a wonderful way to end the day. We still can't believe we were able to spend a week at such an unbelievable place!! I would stay here again and again!! Thank you Diana and Alberto.

Summary: We visited the Umbria area in May for three weeks and made The House of Ulysses our home base. The accommodation is first class. It is located at the top of a hill in a small village with the most amazing views. It has a very good working kitchen and the bedrooms are quite spacious and comfortable. There is a good dining area, sitting area and the terrace overlooks beautifully kept gardens, spectacular sunsets and olive groves. Our hosts, Diana and Alberto, were the most gracious, friendly and accommodating hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They were very knowledgeable about every part of Italy, history, dining, where to shop, and recommended day trips for us that we would never have found in a guide book. We felt at the end of our trip that they were not only our hosts but our friends. If you want to explore Umbria, and I highly recommend that area if you want a less commercial and more authentic Italian experience, then I would suggest that you stay here. You won't be disappointed!! You will need a car but that is the best way to see the area.

Summary: My husband and I and our friends shared this apartment in the converted 16th century stone house for one week. The accomodations are easy to live in, the property is large and the swimming pool is in a lovely location. The tiny town of Silvignano is near Spoleto, Assisi and Perugia, many quintensential small Italian restaurants in the small town below. Our hosts, Diana and Alberto, are suberb, welcoming, encompassing, highly knowledgeable about the area, the possible little known areas to visit, where to shop, etc. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who loves Italy, and who would love to be in a incredibly beautiful, well located and friendly environment. This was a wonderful last week of a 3 month trip to Europe!

Summary: Dear Diana and Alberto we would like to thank you once again for your warm hospitality during our stay in your Logge. Our Villa was more than we expected. We never forget the sunset from the terrace. We also wanto tank you for the hints about secret places and restaurants. We went to La Trattoria and can really recommend it to other guests. We prefer it above all the others. We regret that we not went earlier to that restaurant. We ordered Stinco and it was really delicious also the tiramisu was excellent. Please continue to suggest this plae to your future guests. All the best and hope to see you once again ! Sincerely yours, Maria, Daniel, Jo and David

Summary: My family stayed for a week in the House of Ulysses. The house was great and as advertised. The house was in great condition, the kitchen had everything that you would need, and the rooms were very comfortable. The view from the house was beautiful. Furthermore, the house was very well-located, making day trips easy to do. Finally, we greatly appreciated all of the help and hospitality provided by the hosts (Diana and Alberto). They made it a truly special stay. We highly recommend this place.

Summary: My wife and I stayed in the House of Ulysses in the first week of August 2010, and we enjoyed our stay immensely. As all other reviewers have pointed out, Diana and Alberto are the perfect hosts and very good company. They have so much to relate about the village and the property, from the time they bought it as a ruin 20 years ago till its present splendour. The renovation has been done in exceptionally good taste, suitable for presentations in glossy magazines, but at the same time it feels familiar and cosy. Diana and Alberto ensure that guests feel very welcome, and so do the cat and the very friendly dog. Staying at Le Logge di Silvignano means that you will come across the hosts and other guests in the garden and around the pool, making the stay personal and enjoyable. It never felt crowded, and if one should feel the need for a quiet time outside, there is a large terrace outside the House of Ulysses, with views over the whole valley. We were a little anxious that it might be too hot when we stayed there - temperatures reached 32 degrees Centigrade. However, the House of Ulysses is built in traditional style, keeping cool and fresh inside. Even on the hottest days, we believe the temperature was 10 degrees lower inside. No need for air conditioning - this is how houses were built (and should be built). We slept very comfortably. Le logge di Silvignano is a self-catering accommodation, so guests must prepare their own meals. However, the hosts had provided us with ample food for breakfast (coffee, tea, cereal, fruit, milk and juice), so we only had to supply with one single box of cereal for the whole week. There is a full kitchen, and we prepared several lunches in the house, but had most of our dinners at nearby restaurants. It is possible to walk to the nearest one, Sandro, but you would need a torch for the return walk in the evening, and we would not actually recommend walking back in the dark. Sandro was really good value (3 euro for half a litre of house wine...), and there are also many other good places nearby, if not within walking distance. In Spoleto, we enjoyed Il Panciolle, not far from the cathedral. There are a number of walks in the area, especially in the Monteluco area - and Diana and Alberto proved to be a mine of information on things to do. If you are looking for the perfect retreat in Umbria, whether you want to stay around the house or explore the area by car or on foot, this is it!

Summary: Last july, we spent 2 wonderful weeks at Silvignano, one week in Ulysses and one week in the Tower. Both made a great impression, greatly renovated, if we compare with the pictures they showed us from before the renovation ! The wonderful pool in the large garden was perfect for a relaxing swim after a hot Italian day, visiting all the nice Umbrian towns. Alberto and Diana were the most perfect hosts you can dream of, and made us feel very welcome. Alberto even gave us his expert opinion on the places we should visit in Umbrie; what can be better than such great advise from people who live there ? And not to forget : Alberto proved to be an excellent cake-baker. Did we mention already their "cachi" home-made marmelade ? For us, Diana and Alberto get the price of "best hosts we ever had during a vacation".
