Positive: Great gite in a lovely rural location. The place is just as in the photos; next door to the owners home. Our hosts Guido and Josephine were a lovely couple, who were on hand if you needed them, but not intrusive at all if you just wanted your own space. A nice chilled bottle of wine awaited us on our arrival. The pool is wonderful and was necessary in the exceptional heat during our stay, as it was in the mid 30s for most of our time (unusual for late June) as Europe experienced a heat wave. Josephine gave us another fan to use on the patio, which was very welcome as it was uncomfortably hot, with very little shade. We (two couples) also had fans in the bedrooms, which were a godsend in the hot sultry nights, when trying to sleep. You need a car to stay here as it is very rural, but that is its charm, so no complaints from us. We did go to a nearby 4 star campsite (Camping Domaine de la Faurie)for an evening meal during our stay as they have a lovely little restaurant open to all. Literally 2 minutes by car to the road that leads up to the campsite. Worth a trip if you fancy a night out, but don’t want to travel far. We popped in a few days before to book. You can’t walk there safely though as there are no footpaths. Also at the gite there is a BBQ on the terrace overlooking the pool, which we used on quite a few occasions during our stay, which was great! We used the Super U supermarket in Labastide-Murat (9 mins drive away) to buy our food and petrol. The town is pretty too with at least one restaurant/ cafe bar, chemist and boulangerie. This is a great base to explore the wealth of beautiful towns nearby, such as Sarlat, Domme, Rocamadour, Gourdon etc. We flew into Limoges and the drive to the gite was easy, 1 hour 50 mostly by motorway, so no problem at all, especially in late June/ early July, when the roads are really quiet.
Negative: Lack of shade in the evening when the sun is at a certain level, with no real escape when sitting outside. Blinds have been added to the bottom terrace to provide some shade, but it was exceptionally hot when we stayed. There are two lovely big umbrellas though, which are a great help when poolside. A bigger fridge or a separate drinks fridge would be helpful if 4 adults are staying, otherwise you need to shop more often, which isn’t ideal when you’re sightseeing or relaxing by the pool.
Summary: Fabulous gite, with a wonderful pool in an idyllic countryside location, with great hosts.
