Being a guest at Villa Mara is an unforgettable experience. The view over the coast between Olhão in the east and far into the west is breathtaking on a clear day.
Almost countless places invite you to linger and marvel. Already in the morning from the bed, during breakfast at the dining table, in between on the roof terrace, with a snack at noon by the pool, in the afternoon on the Boules court, with a barbecue under the pergola or on the veranda into the night - you always have these wonderful view.
The property is in an exclusive location on a hill on the edge of the highest mountain in the Eastern Algarve, the "São Miguel". The various terraces are not visible from the neighbours and so you can enjoy 100% privacy with a pleasant rest. Many trees and shrubs typical of the Algarve surround the stony land and provide a natural habitat for birds, cicadas and geckos.
The well maintained house has the living area on the upper floor. You enter the villa on the north side. The spacious hallway leads to the well equipped kitchen as well as the utility room with washer and dryer.
The bright living room is of course in a preferred south facing position. The cosy sofa set by the fireplace and the large dining table can be found here as well as the "conservatory", which was once the terrace and where you can now use all year round the various seating for reading, listening or philosophising. Of course, overlooking the blue Atlantic.
In the side wings are bedrooms and bathrooms. To the left of the master bedroom with en suite bathroom and to the right two bedrooms sharing a shower room in the middle. Two of the three bedrooms have a terrace access and sea views.
An outdoor staircase leads to the pool area via the 45m² veranda with two electric awnings and a round dining table. The large saltwater pool is well maintained and offers all around moorings and seating, either in the sun or in the shade. Here in the basement is also the fourth bedroom that can be booked with occupancy of more than 6 people. It has its own bathroom en suite.
Holiday at Villa Mara is as attractive for a couple as for a group of up to 8 people. Each guest will find their favourite spot to linger and, if needed, meet at one of the many tables for a meal or a game, a game of bowls or a dip in the pool ... This is how vacation goes!
For shopping you have the choice between the friendly town of "São Brás de Alportel" in the hinterland (9km), the smaller towns of Estoi and Moncarapacho (5 or 9km) or the bustling port city of Olhão with its famous market (10km). Faro also offers a variety of shopping opportunities both in the city centre and in the surrounding area.
Beaches are reached in a star shape all over the coast (for instance Praia de Faro or Praia da Fuseta (17km each).
The nearest golf courses are "São Lorenço" at Almancil (about 25km) or "Benamor" at Tavira (about 30km).

Summary: We've just had lovely holiday staying at Villa Mara. The property is incredible and just as described. The views from the villa are amazing and something we will never forget. The villa itself is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Jens met us at the property on arrival and was very helpful. The location is perfect for exploring the area and is an easy drive to Tavira which is one of our favourite places. We would highly recommend this property.

Summary: Beautiful villa definitely has the wow factor. Modern and clean. Views are amazing. Spacious and has everything you need. Only a very minor negative is the staircase from the main house to the pool they need to be carefully negotiated!! The pool area is large and plenty of seating/sunloungers. Suggest footwear is worn around the pool as it’s a little gritty underfoot. The garden is very pretty although we didn’t really use it. Massive driveway. All very private and safe. We’ve had a wonderful time and would thoroughly recommend.

Summary: We stayed in August. The weather was amazing. The house has panoramic uninterrupted views of the Algarve coast and is a wonderful Vila for families or a large group of friends. It is clean, well equipped and very well looked after. The pool was brilliant. The beds were comfortable and air conditioning in the bedroom was a great benefit. We loved our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to book a future stay.

Summary: Nestled up on the hills above Faro, Villa Mara is nice and secluded with a fantastic view of Faro, Olhao and the islands. It faces south but a roof terrace means you can catch evening sunsets. There was an impressive super moon whilst we were there. As it’s up on the hills, it does get some wind which is really refreshing. Villa is a good size with plenty of lounging space inside and out and a lovely, well kept garden. Pool was great and cleaned by the friendly Linda every Tues. Plenty of places to food shop nearby (Sao Bras de Alportel) - car is a must. Also plenty of towns to visit - Tavira was a favourite but also Loule (for the markets but also the impressive salt mines just out of town) and Carvoeira (for the beach, cliffs and caves). We were able to check in early, which was very kind. Would thoroughly recommend.

Summary: One of the best vacations that we've had largely due to our stay at Villa Mara. Spectacular views over Faro and Olhao down to a gleeming ocean below. Set in the hills amongst other luxurious villas birds and nature abound. The owner's father Uli is the most fantastic gardener and was often around. Acres of beautiful plants surround the Villa and there are literally endless tables and chairs and different courtyards and places to have a meal or morning coffee. The Manager, Jens was always there for us if we had a question. He was very accommodating and helpful with suggestions and the notes in the house were very helpful. The house is extremely well thought out. The kitchen well equipped, the beds comfortable, and the sitting areas cosy and fresh. The house was so clean and fresh. We appreciated the air conditioning a lot! The terraces and the pool were stunning and although we traveled alot, we spent every other day around the pool. We had never been in such a beautiful climate. Consistently 28-34, sunny and dry. Unbelievable! Portugese people we met were so nice without exception. Finally, the location was outstanding. Very central in the Algarve and close to Seville. 2 hours. We had such fun. Big thank yous to Jens, Uli and Heidi. We will be back one day soon i hope. Tim and Maria

Summary: We had a great week in Villa Mara and we thank Heidi and Jens for it. They were really kind with us and helpful before our arrival, and during our stay. The house is splendid. The terrace and view is breathtaking, the poolside great. You'll find plenty of different living spaces outside the house, including a pétanque pitch in a lovely alley. Inside the house, the kitchen is well equipped, the rooms have great beds and the bathrooms are nice. There is also a coal barbecue outside which proved to be great. Only great things to say about our stay, thank you Heidi and Jens!
