Positive: This 4 star CABARET Lastours accommodation was amazing. One of the owners, Ann, designed it several years ago as a complete renovation, and it is both imaginative and very comfortable. It is built up against the rock hillside, and a section of polished rock is part of the wall in the living room. There is a spacious well-equipped kitchen, a dining area, and attractive bathroom with shower and bedroom, all very modern. The windows are beautiful, open easily for fresh air and have shades for privacy. There is a wonderful patio with plenty of seating offering views of sime of the chateau above the river and very small village of Lastours. The owners Ann and her husband Janes were extremely helpful in planning sightseeing and a hike to the 4 ruined castles.
Negative: absolutely nothing was less than extraordinary

Negative: It took time to find the entrance as it was up steps to the side, I rang Ann but got no reply, but then discovered the entrance, I left her a message to say we were in as requested. Ann did not contact me till later the next day. We had not realised the property faced North, fine in summer, but could only use the terrace briefly the 1st evening as it was to cold to sit out. It would be nice to have had some blankets to sit outside with. We had stayed for several days before at an apartment in Carcassone, where we were able to sit out every evening. The apartment was expensive in comparison to the one in Carcassone ( which was not available for more than 3 days.) which was only slightly smaller and was better equipped in the kitchen. However the view from the terrace was amazing. The different width pillows on the bed which was otherwise very comfy. The rocking chair looked interesting but was highly uncomfortable. The kitchen could do with a few more small pans for 2, rather than 1 and several huge pans, tongs would also have been useful.
Summary: We enjoyed our stay despite the niggles.

Positive: The location was fabulous for visiting the castle ruins in Lastours (5 min walk to the entrance) as well as getting quickly (15 min drive) to Carcassonne; as well as being on the Vineyard route and experiencing several lovely wineries in the immediate area! 🥂
Negative: We had the best view in the world - of the Lastours castle ruins! We also had a balcony over looking the river, with a separate fenced in garden area with picnic tables, and a great space for our dogs to run around. The home was remodeled and has modern furnishings while being set into the side of a mountain! It is the most beautiful apartment set in such a unique spot in this quaint town.
Summary: Our favorite place to stay on our 6 week road trip thru Europe!
