Positive: The photos don’t give it enough credit. It’s a little heaven. Super friendly staff, amazing food and A LOT to discover within the property itself. Beautiful surroundings and it’s directly on the ocean. Their exchange rate is almost as found on Google. They offer excursions and transportation at a fair price. The outside shower is a very nice experience! So much effort was put into every small piece of detail to give you an ecological glamping proper experience.

Negative: None of this is their fault, but this is just for setting guests expectations: - Electricity outages do happen - Water may go out - There’s poor network coverage so the wifi is a bit weak but functional

Positive: The landscape is mesmerising. I loooovvveeddd how the hotel allows for exploration of historical sites and nature. The staff are extremely nice. The lodges are spacious and clean, and very, very well designed. I loved the beach towels in the room. I loved the outside sitting areas. Each one had a different view of the ocean. Highly recommend it if you’re aiming for a secluded, relaxing stay.

Negative: Very bad location. There is not a road that leads to the hotel. Cars have to drive over and follow water brooks, while evading trees, rocks, and being bogged down every few meters. It’s also over 10 driving mins away from the main road.

Positive: Everything! Stayed alone for a week which became like home. All staff members became like family, took very good care of me. Food was AMAZING lots of different choices with fair pricing. Beach is 10 out of 10, room was clean and mosquito free. Thank you for such a warm and nice stay & will be back!

Positive: What a hidden gem! about 20 mind drive (traffic can add to that) north of Stonetown. I spent a night there this week as I was on business nearby. It is an absolute GEM - to the point that I have now cancelled at another place in the North of the island and rebooked here for the Christmas holiday with the family. Great staff, its calm, tucked away from the noise/shops/roads. Right on the beach, great pool-bar vibe as the sun sets. Nice beach immediately in front. Drinks, food there value for money. Rooms great. As a 'Lodge' I was expecting a little less but this is way above my expectation and I do over 100 nights a year in hotels/resorts/airbnb etc. Great value for money. Its a tucked away Oasis - and great to chill, enjoy the place and relax. Good wifi.

Negative: So, the hotel cant change this - but the last 2 kms drive off the main tarred road can be bumpy and you may wonder whether you will ever be seen again..... so it is VERY useful to arrange your airport/ferry transfer with the hotel in advance as their known taxi drivers know the road and wont get lost. The hotel acknowledges this last short stretch is a bit of an adventure unto itself, but once you pull in , you will see its well worth it and a lot less in price than some of the other lodges that offer so much less. This is now my favourite hide-out in Zanzibar, away from the real world.

Summary: Excellent - value for money - so much better than I had anticipated. Hidden, perfect little gem .

Positive: I had an amazing stay at Mangrove Lodge. The property is spacious and surrounded by nature, making it the perfect spot to unwind. On one side, the harbor is serene and offers a glimpse of local life, and on the other side, the beach is quiet and nearly empty—a true luxury. My room was large, clean, and thoughtfully designed (the outdoor shower was a highlight!). The breakfast was excellent, with a great variety—especially the delicious vegetarian options—and the other meals were just as tasty. A special thanks to the owners for the lovely conversations, and to the fantastic team for making my stay so enjoyable.
