Summary: Our plan was to stay for two nights in Piraeus, with a day's sightseeing in Athens, followed by a ferry to Syros. From Athens airport we took the X96 bus, which drops you off on the seafront in Piraeus. From here you can get a local 843 bus which will take you to Proskopon (the bus has a moving map display at the front showing the stops). I think the tickets cost 1 euro 70 each, and you need to buy them from a kiosk before you board. For a family of four it is worth getting a taxi instead - it should not cost much more than the 4 bus tickets. From the Proskopon stop it is about 4 minutes uphill to the apartment. We did not meet Maria, but she had given us detailed and timely instructions about accessing the key box and getting into the apartment. I couldn't work out the aircon straight away, so I called Maria, who was very helpful and courteous. The flat is roomy and comfortable, and the aircon kept it cool. The kitchen is fairly basic, although that did not matter to us as we ate out. There is a useful supermarket just by the Proskopon bus stop if you need supplies, and a kiosk a minute's walk from the apartment with cold water, beer and other necessities. If you don't mind a walk there is a very nice restaurant called Taxidegontas about 15 minutes away. We had a very early start for our ferry on the last morning, but we were able to find a free taxi without much of a wait. My only slight moan is that Maria called us rather late the previous evening - we had already gone to bed - to check that we were home, as a neighbour had said that we were out and that the aircon was still on! Still, all in all the apartment was comfortable and very good value.
