Summary: I pretty much got what I expected. A small room, shared bathroom. That’s OK what I was a bit disappointed in is that the rooms did not have any electrical outlets. If you wanted to charge something, you had to leave it out in the hall. Also, the rooms do not have any locks on the doors. Hope everybody’s trustworthy. There was a latch on the inside, so at least there was privacy while I was sleeping.

Summary: The room was clean but amenities are sparse. Remember you are staying in a very old pre electricity building. There were no outlets in bedrooms. The staff were helpful and able to run an extension cord from a hall outlet for our cpaps. There is good wifI. Overall the experience was positive. It is an interesting place to visit amd great basecamp to explore Kennicott. The shuttle service is included, ran frequently and they provided a very decent breakfast every morning.

Summary: Ma Johnson’s hotel is quaint, really a museum. We enjoyed it BUT the negatives are important. The rooms are up stairs. There are no electrical outlets in the rooms, which are tiny. There is no en-suite sink or toilet. If you can look past these limitations our stay was great. WiFi worked great. The location is fantastic. Be prepared to walk. You cannot drive in McCarthy. You must park a mile from “town” at the river and cross a footbridge to get to the free town shuttle. Breakfast is provided free at the restaurant across the dirt road. It was great. Go to McCarthy for the location. It is 60 miles down a dirt road excluded by car rental agreement. The destination and mountain views are the reason to go.

Summary: Ma Johnson's is the classic vintage small town hotel. The decor reflected the town's history and each room was decorated accordingly. They were upfront about things like a shared bathroom and no outlets in the rooms. It was a little cold upstairs since that floor does not have heaters in the rooms but they gave us extra blankets. For us, these things were issues and it was fun to socialize w/the other guests while charging up our electronics. The WiFi worked great as did the transportation. Everyone was helpful and it was easy to get around town. The breakfast was outstanding!

Summary: If you want to see Wrangell St Elias NP this is the place to stay. The town is old school but fun and quirky. Not much to it though so dont go expecting a lot. Very good food in town. Shuttle makes things easy. Getting to McCarthy is a challenge but Im glad we did it.

Summary: Emily drove the shuttle, gave great advice on what to see, worked the front desk and did the laundry. They ran an extension cord for our CPAPs and the lobby was a cozy place to charge your phone and chat with other travelers. They went over and above to take care of us.

Summary: McCarthy is a very unique experience- a step back in time. Very clean and quiet. The Salmon and bear restaurant for breakfast was excellent. Their dinner menu is top notch.
