Summary: This is probably the friendliest and most helpful hotel I have ever stayed in, which after visiting hotels all over the world is the best compliment I can give. This family run hotel offers every kind of help and assistance you can imagine, from fixing and cleaning bikes and cars to exciting ideas of visits. The home made food is excellent and their farm produced goods are highly recommended for food buffs. Simply great. We are looking forward to visiting again next year.

Summary: We arrived late afternoon and enjoyed a lovely quiet chill out and then went for a walk, fabulous views. The hotel is tucked away in a wonderful valley, and once you find it is a great base for exploring. Dinner was excellent, home cooked and delicious - best to book ahead. Mendi Alai is in a lovely valley,very peaceful and rural but at the same time only around half an hour to the Atlantic beaches and an hour to Bilbao for a visit to the Guggenheim. We were there for the European Challenge Rugby Final in Bilbao on the Friday night and as the game started quite late, we didn’t get back to the hotel until gone half past midnight. Our lovely hosts waited up for us and couldn’t have been more helpful overall, they speak English, French, Spanish and Basque! The room was well appointed and the bed very comfortable. If you want a quiet, relaxing time in beautiful surroundings, this is a great place to stay.
