Summary: The house was very comfortable and clean with some nice art on the walls. It had a great location and was close to stores, restaurants and the cemetery. The beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were nicely updated. The house had plenty of space for 4 people. We loved the backyard with a lot of trees and birdsong, so it was very quiet and relaxing to stay there for 4 nights. The staff person was very nice and quick to respond to our needs and questions. The kitchen was ok for basic cooking , but only provided salt. Some of the frying pans need to be replaced since the inside coating is peeling off, and the coffee maker was a bit cumbersome to use but we finally figured it out the last morning there. I understand the owners are working on an instruction booklet for the appliances and other things to help guests, which is good. Overall, a nice experience and a great environment for family togetherness.

Summary: I gave this property a 4 star overall rating because the communication was great with the owner and team. The first house in Newport News had a horrible odor to it being they just had it sprayed for pests and we were not happy with the less than average sized stove being we were staying there as a family for Thanksgiving. The host very quickly and easily relocated us to another property that was fully renovated. However, charged us an additional $50/night x 3 nights we were staying. So that is the property that I will actually do the review on. I do not feel as though we should have been charged anything for the relocation as it was not our fault the property smelled horribly of chemicals and we were not going to be able to stay there. The property that the owner relocated us to was however fully renovated and nice, but in the worst neighborhood. There were homeless people sleeping around the corner on the ground and in wheelchairs and random people standing outside in an open lot for hours on end as if they were waiting for a bus, when in fact there was no bus that ever came. Everynight from about 11:15-11:30 ish until 1:30-2:00 in the morning there was loud vulgar music being played from peoples cars as well as people doing burnouts and loud motorcycles in the parking lot of a restaurant/bar right outside the master bedroom window. There was also loud talking and people hanging out outside this location as well. The smell of marijuana all around this property was so potent, you could easily get contact high and to top it off there was not ONE but TWO SEX OFFENDERS whose backyard of their house butt right up to the backyard of all three properties this host owns on this street. So yes the backyard was nice but if you want to send your kid outside to play where a sex offender that abducted children could and used foreign objects on them could watch them then, go for it. The back door was not being unlocked while I was there nor were my 5 kids being left out of my sight. The host was great, the house was nice and redone, all of which was a plus, however you can have a mansion in the slums and it is still a place you would never stay at again. The first house in Newport News was not in a good location either, as people had cars, and boats parked on their front lawns with garbage and scrap everywhere. The cleanliness of the first place I would give a 4 to, the second place a 5, it was just renovated.

Summary: This is an awesome place to stay. Very quiet neighborhood. Nice sized house, with room for a family. It was clean, and well stocked with most every thing we needed. It is close to just about anything you would like to do. We went to bush gardens and water country USA. The owner was excellent with communication. I would stay again with no hesitation!
