Welcome to family friendly, highly sought after, Historic Hilton Village on the James River in Newport News nestled between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. You can walk to the James River beach & pier & delish restaurants such as Kismet, Circa 1918, & Indulge Bakery & Bistro in under 5 min as well as the Hilton Creamery. (No pets or smoking allowed.)
I have another home across the street called The Sonshine Home in Hilton Village on the James.
The space
Cozy, quaint, comfortable. Amazingly comfortable beds all on 2nd floor. The large bedroom has a king and a twin trundle daybed that sleeps 2. There is a half bath downstairs and a full bathroom upstairs. The cozy living area makes it feel so homey. A well stocked kitchen with a Keurig, French press, baking, cooking, and serving ware is sure to please. High speed WiFi available for all guests and a smart TV!
Guest access
The full home and yard is available to guests. Please be courteous of neighbors. No tents or camping allowed in the yard. No fireworks or parties allowed. The front porch is perfect for a morning cup of tea or coffee or an evening cocktail. This is a duplex with separate ownership per side, there is no shared aspect of the home. Please be respectful of the family living next door.
Parking is available on the street in front of and side streets and is first come, first serve.
***This is a family friendly neighborhood and my neighbors' well being is VERY IMPORTANT TO ME! Please be respectful of this and honor the quiet time of 10pm-6am. Absolutely no smoking or pets anywhere on the property. A fine will be assessed if this occurs.***
***If you are booking this with false information, plan on throwing a party, or are breaking the house rules of no excessive alcohol use, no drug use, or not honoring the quiet hours, THE POLICE WILL BE CALLED and you will be asked to leave and your money will not be refunded.***
Other things to note:
Historic Hilton Village was built for shipyard workers during World War I to help build ships. The homes situated within historic Hilton Village were built between 1918 to 1920 and the majority still have many original features including hardwood floors, clawfoot tubs (mine was removed before I bought it), original windows and slate roofs. When opening and closing doors and windows and coming and going please remember the age of the home.

Summary: Overall, the place needed. All complaints we had were was not well lite on the side of the house where you entered. Stairs to the second floor are tricky to someone who has a disability.

Summary: When we arrived to the home, it had not been cleaned. We were very upset by this, having two small children and all our luggage inside the home that had not been attended to since its last visitors. Dana and another manager worked closely with us to have the home cleaned immediately, only delaying our settling in by around 2 hours. For the inconvenience, Dana refunded our first night’s stay. Otherwise, a great stay for our young family! Very cute area and quiet neighborhood.

Summary: This place was PERFECT for our stay. A nice morning walk to the shops just blocks away was amazing (don't miss the bakery and take the coupon the property owner leaves for you). Also don't miss the ice cream shop! We were literally moments drive away from the family we were in town to visit and all of the necessities for a week long stay. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking in. The property has character and history. Take note of the instructions on the fridge if you have any questions. Fantastic stay!!

Summary: This was an adorable duplex. I loved everything about it!! Was walking distance to Hilton Village where we walked for ice cream. Walking distance to the fishing pier where we caught the sunset. The neighborhood was safe to run in!! The duplex itself was equipped with everything we needed. Kitchen was stocked with pots/pans and spices. The place was very clean! The fan in the bedrooms was about the coolest thing we have ever seen!!! Very quiet neighborhood which was important since we had to wake up early for a swim meet. Will definitely be booking again if we are in town for a swim meet in the future!!

Summary: The house will remind you of the times you visited your grandparents. You will definitely feel you have travelled back into time in this well-appointed house. Dana was also amazing. We had a little hiccup with our reservation and Dana quickly responded with a couple of options to make sure our stay went on without a hitch.
