Summary: I arrived after dark to find both the property and the estate shrouded in darkness. I had to use my phone flashlight to safely make my way to the front door and inside the lobby. There is no porch light and the front door was unlocked. There are multiple reminders posted near the front doors as well as on the printed instructions to not lock the front door. The reason was that I could lock other guests out. There were no lights on inside the very large house, which as a female traveling alone, was rather unnerving. The bedroom doors lock with a skeleton key. Charming, except for the fact that the front door was to remain unlocked. I pushed furniture up against the door as I was afraid for my safety. The lamp and the nightlight in my bedroom did not work. The body wash container in the shower was empty and its replacement was on the shower floor. There was a lot of hair on the inside of the shower door and the handle to change shower heads fell off into my hand. I chose not to stay the second night as there was a male guest staying at the estate. I did not feel comfortable knowing I was alone with a stranger with only a skeleton key lock between myself and them.

Summary: The entire place was clean and comfortable. The house was everything we have come to expect from a historic small town B&B. We had a great nights sleep, an excellent breakfast and a long and informative conversation with our host. In world that has fewer and fewer traditional Bed & Breakfast Inns, it was great to find one that was just where we needed it for our travels.

Summary: As a first time bnb guest, I loved it. James and Connie were very welcoming and made for great conversation during breakfast with the other guests. So much history in the house and area. We spent most of our time in Abingdon - antiquing, dining, and the barter theater. Apparently there's much to discover in Damascus for next time though! We valued the private bathroom in the honeymoon suite, but FYI does not have a shower just a tub, but there was a public shower down the hall. Thanks guys for a great time!

Summary: Delicious large breakfast made by friendly and welcoming owners, served family style. Eclectic furniture and antiques initiated good conversation and interesting stories. The Honeymoon Suite was large and the bed was very comfortable. The en-suite was nice and clean but it’s important to note there is no shower. You can use the shower downstairs or use the included bath. Not a big deal unless you want to wash your hair. The grounds could be lovely but are somewhat dilapidated and very much need attention. A nice stay overall.

Summary: I enjoyed my stay at the Millsap Baker Estate. The room and bath were very clean, and the atmosphere was peaceful. I learned alot about the history of the estate and Damascus from the owners.

Summary: The four-bedroom house was well appointed; the kitchen is huge. Get the Honeymoon suite if you can it's immense! The c.1880s decorations in the B&B are impressive. The broad back deck is very large. Access was easy and convenient. Laundry on the first level. James' breakfasts are to die for, especially the hot biscuits and sausage gravy. James grew up here and knows all to be known. It's within a mile of downtown Damascus and across the street from a supermarket. Very convenient in all ways. Hiking trails, including the AT and Virginia Creeper are next door as is a cross country biking route. I was here for the AT's annual Trail Days celebration.
