At the top off a mountain bordering The Shenandoah National Park is where you will find Mountain Roots Lodging.
The Lodging quarters consist of: Living room and Dinning area, with a flat screen TV, and a large front deck with beautiful sunsets. Bath with tub and shower and blow dryer. Bedroom 1 have a queen size bed . Bedroom 2 has bunk beds and a single bed, board games and cards. The Kitchen is equipped with a microwave oven, toaster over, toaster, blender and coffee pot, and a gathering table with bar stools and furnished back deck. A campfire and walking trails are on the property accompanied by beautiful views. Hike the fire trail up to The Appalachian Trail (half mile away) and The Skyline Drive and Big Meadows (1 1/2 miles from the lodging).

Summary: Fabulous location for hikers. Simply walk up the fire road to the Appalachian Trail and the network of trails around Big Meadows. Also, a lovely porch with a view of the mountain sunset. We had a lovely weekend!

Summary: This place is so peaceful, the location is great with beautiful mountains view from the porch. The owner, Susan, is a very nice lady. Highly recommend!

Summary: Overall a good stay, nice mountain location, beautiful view and stars! But would note that the property is 30 minutes away from car entrance to the National Park (expect to drive far to restaurants and shops too); no heating in the bedrooms (one space heater for two bedrooms); cannot use fire pit after 4pm; bed sheets are old (came off main bed) and very thin quilts (do not keep you warm) so you may want to bring your own.

Summary: The house is adjacent the national park and there’s a fire road that takes you right up to the Appalachian Trail. The house is fine-not fancy in any way, and could use some basic updates. Like a cutting board, smoke detectors that don’t go off when you’re cooking, a new faucet in the bathroom, a fumigator to get rid of the ladybugs, some nicer sheets...But if you look past all of that and spend time on the deck and watch the sunset, or the spectacular display of stars, or have a fire in the pit and take a long stride in the tree swing, it’s easy to overlook the less-than-fabulous aspects of this little house in the woods. AND Susan who owns the property is an absolute treasure. We didn’t see her much and she was unobtrusive, but we had the absolute delight of hearing a few of her family’s stories about growing up on the mountain. She’s is delightful and a joy.

Summary: We had a lovely stay! Beautiful views off the mountains off the deck. Friendly neighbors and everything we needed. Just be careful cooking bacon in the kitchen, we managed to set off all the fire alarms.

Summary: Loved the cabin. No frills. Everything you need and nothing more. Easy hiking access to the AT out the front door, and beautiful sunset views from the back deck were a great way to end each day. I would definitely stay there again.

Summary: We stayed here for a week to get (mostly) off the grid and take a breather -- it was absolutely beautiful. 3.5 miles up a steep grade, the property borders the national park, and although you can't reach Skyline Drive directly by car, the Big Meadows visitors' center and some other trails are accessible via a short, moderately-difficult hike. Also spectacular views from the deck, beautiful setting and foliage, with local wildlife as neighbors. :) The apartment is rustic and cozy. Recommend bringing: extra pillows; scissors, knives and cutting board if you plan to cook.

Summary: The house is very close to Shenandoah national park and the area is very quiet and relaxing. Some pros: - we did have a little cell service (Verizon) - there is WiFi available - the deck view is very nice - house was clean - the price was right - satellite worked well Some cons: - the sheets and linens were clean but are showing their age. Sheets have holes and towels are spotty and threadbare. - could not get the electric grill to work - some light bulbs are missing or burnt out in lamps/lights We enjoyed our stay and would consider staying here again!
