Positive: I would consider Mucumbli an essential stay when exploring Sao Tome, at least for a few days. It's the only viable option on the west side of the island and gives you great access to some of the sights and activities nearby like Roca Diogo Vaz or doing the seven tunnels hike. It's also an absolute paradise for nature, so many birds of different kinds to sit and watch while overlooking the sea. Mucumbli has that touch of quality that was greatly appreciated having stayed in other places around the island beforehand. Really clean and well furnished rooms with everything you need. There is also a laundry service that was helpful. The meals here are also very good, I really enjoyed the mix of local cuisine as well as pasta dishes. The calulu (local dish) is exceptional!
Negative: I was a little disappointed with the service in the restaurant at times. Some staff seemed a little unbothered. I sat in there once over lunch hours hoping for at least a drink but nobody seemed interested in serving me - even though other parties arrived and were given attention, so I gave up and went to sit outside my room instead. Communication was also a bit of an issue at front desk - one guy spoke excellent English and I was grateful he was available to both check me in and out. Others did not seem to speak much English so it was difficult to resolve some things. Both minor issues though and should not take away from the fact that this was an excellent and essential place to stay and experience.
