Positive: We had appartment nr. 3 which is big enough for a small family. Appartment looked relatively new and was very clean and has a bit of an industrial style. There is a small kitchinette with dishwasher which serves it's purpose. The layout is very different from what you would expect which makes it interesting. Location is great if you want to stay out of the busy city center of Köln. There is a supermarket across the street which is very convenient. There was a parking space available and finding the appartment building was relatively easy. Check in process was straightforward and the host Jan is very friendly and approachable. No complaints about that.
Negative: I need to be honest and fair though. There are a few things which should really be improved: - Our appartment (nr. 3) had no airconditioning. We had a few days with 30ºC which made it slightly uncomfortable. Especially in the living room and connecting bedroom it was getting too warm. - There was no window covering in the bathroom. Which felt a bit odd. The window is overlooking a garden from a neighbouring house. We did not really feel being watched but we did not use the bathroom during the night due to this. - Biggest issue is the fact that the appartment has a connecting door to another appartment. Normally this should not be an issue but in this case it was unfortunately. There is no proper noise reduction on this door. The first time we heared people talking it actually sounded like someone entered our appartment. We rushed out of bed (we have small kids) to find out it was coming from the connecting door. You can actually see people moving through the keyhole. This is really not done. The door and lock should be replaced as soon as possible. The last day we actually experienced a lot of noise (music and screaming). It was properly handled by the host however you would not expect this type of noise nuisance in an appartement in this price range. - In the hallway where the restroom is situated there is a lamp which is triggered by a motion sensor. This is convenient when going to the restroom during the night. However it also triggers if somebody in the connecting appartment is walking on the other side of the door. This means that during the night while sleeping (we had our door open due to the kids) there were countless occasions where our neighbours were walking in their hallway which activated the light. This wasn't our best night which you probably also can imagine.
