Summary: What a find this villa was for our summer holiday. The location was ideal allowing us to explore northern Italy as well as having time to relax in the well-appointed accommodation. The large pool is brilliant as there is a 'shelf' around the perimeter meaning our youngest child (9 yrs old and 135cm tall) could stand up, even around the edges of the deep end. This enabled her to enjoy the pool just as much as her siblings. The deepest part is over 2 metres so the older children could practice their underwater swimming with the mask, snorkel and flippers as well as play on the inflatable toys and chairs (all provided) There are even lights to enjoy an atmospheric night swim. Ideal after a hot day of exploring! The house was ideal for our family (2 adults and 4 children) with fans in the bedrooms (much appreciated, as the nights can be very warm), 2 bathrooms including 2 showers and a comfortable lounge. The kitchen has plenty of equipment and utensils and a large fridge freezer. The owner has thoughtfully included an English plug trailer bar that gives you 4 sockets for electrical items. There was even a 4 port usb charger provided that we used to charge phones/tablets etc. The Chestnut House is a lovely out-building used to store some of the outside furniture and cushions but also has a large sofa and wicker chairs and was ideal to escape the heat of the day. Outside there were two large movable parasols plus two even larger fixed parasols to provide shade around the pool, the outside sitting area plus cover for the outdoor dining table. One thing to note is that parking is located a short walk from the house. This wasn't a problem for us, however, families with very young children and pushchairs may find this tricky to negotiate once they arrive and have to unload their vehicle and carry/push little ones up the short hill and along the uneven paths to the accommodation. The rural location does mean the house is very private with no properties overlooking the house, pool or outside sitting area. The whole family enjoyed our stay here and we would love to return one day.

Summary: "We had a lovely, relaxing week in this beautiful part of Italy. Not particularly touristy (apart from Pisa and Cinque Terre) - which made it even better. The house is incredibly well equipped with absolutely everything you would need, and more. There is lots of space. With one double bedroom and bathroom on one floor and two bedrooms a couple of floors up again with bathroom, separated by a floor of reception rooms, it makes an ideal property if a party of four or six wants to share. It feels very much like somebody's home rather than a bland rental property - very comfortable and welcoming. The broadband is adequate and probably normal for a rural area, but may frustrate teenagers! It is in a rural hamlet, where parking is a communal piazza. The walk to/from the car will not be to everybody's taste or capability, but it does make it feel like you you are part of the community as you come/go and the villagers are friendly and welcoming. The views from the property - especially from the pool area are incredible. It is a wonderfully peaceful and relaxing location. The host, Heather, was very friendly upon arrival and followed it up with a WhatsAp to check all was OK. The owner, Simon, was very communicative and efficient during the whole booking process and provided lots of helpful info on the house and directions. It's great and challenging walking country - but that's probably best reserved for Autumn when the forested mountains must be sensational, and the temperature cooler. It may be a little remote for some with regard to shops/restaurants but the few there are of a very high standard so it's more quality than quantity. The fact that the main shops are at Aulla (c.15 mins) and that's the primary way in/out of the area mean that you can easily plan shopping requirements. Days out to Lucca, Pisa, Porto Venere and Cinque Terre easily filled half a week - and it's a great base to explore all of these. Pisa has so much more to offer than the Tower. La Spezia makes a great gateway by train to Cinque Terre and is very easy to access from Crespiano. La Spezia is well worth a visit in it's own right, as is Sarzana. Carrara and Viareggio were interesting diversions en route. If your travel plans can avoid Pisa Airport than do so! It's small, inefficient and busy. But once you've battled in/out of there it's a lovely and relatively unspoiled part of Italy."

Summary: It’s a tricky climb through rambling paths to get to the house with luggage! And the WiFi is really bad, so if you need WiFi regularly it’s just not possible there. The dishwasher really needs to be replaced. Otherwise, we loved the pool and the quiet, and the kitchen is super well equipped for cooking thankfully :-) Nice towels and all you need really. Only last thing I’d say is that the house could do with a serious clean. The freezer and fridge are full of food. The freezer has many items way out of date as well.
