This thoughtfully renovated oceanfront property is one of the Cape Cod Cottages, a charming community of rustic retreats just south of Waldport. When you're not boogie boarding or collecting seashells, hop in the car for a scenic drive to Yachats (six miles south), majestic Cape Perpetua, and Thor's Well (eight miles south).

Summary: The Waldport to Yachats stretch of the Oregon Coast is our go-to spot nearly every summer. Now that we have our yellow lab, Lass, with us, our choices are fewer but our motivation greater. Lass loves the beach. And this property, the smallest of the Cape Cod Cottages just south of Waldport, was the perfect location. Direct access to the beach, beach views from the living room and bedroom, deck across the front of these with a hot tub! The unit number was a corroded “2” the same color as the shake siding and not easy to see from the car. One set of directions said to input the ten-digit code into the lock box. The other set of directions said to input that code into the keyless entry. The Keyless entry worked, but only after a couple of frustrating tries, thinking we had messed up such a long code. The units provide NO coffee filters, the first in our ten-year experience with VRBO. How to we know ahead of time: flat bottom, cone, pod? And the unit had no vacuum! With a dog! at the beach! Really? Our unit, unlike the larger ones, had no dishwasher, which we knew going in, yet we were asked to start the dishwasher when we left! These frustrations aside, we had a great and relaxing stay in between beach romps several times a day.

Summary: I would love to leave 5 stars, but a few preventable issues prevent that. The location and view are stellar. The unit itself has been thoroughly updated, very clean and spacious. Great beach access. Kitchen is well outfitted, EXCEPT for NO cutting board. Very hard to cut even a few things in the dinner plates. Countertop already showing signs of others not using a plate to cut on. Should have been an easy fix. Then there’s the towel hanging situation. There is none. 3 little picture hanging hooks do NOT WORK. maybe if the towels had loops, but they do not. The door of the electrical panel can work. But the saddest, most regrettable feature is the placement of the hot tub. It is in front of the living room picture window. So if you are sitting there, the ocean is just barely visible. Note: HOT TUB NOT SHOWN IN PHOTOS. Could have been place between living room and bedroom windows. The view from the bed is lovely, however. I hate when owners go for cheap, and short lived furnishings. Throw away the broken dresser, it is not going to get any better. A number of other frayed or chipped items in unit also. So 5 stars for view and cleanliness. One star for ignoring details.

Summary: Great location, quiet place, fabulous ocean view, hot tub on deck overlooking Pacific ocean. Stunning. Laundry and game & rec room available on site, but ask management how to access as wasn't obvious, because you need code for door lock. Only thing lacking are places to hang towels and clothing, swimsuits, etc. Because it allows pets, you might find pet hair on furniture. But, that is minor compared to the positives it offers.

Summary: The cottage is steps from the beach with an ocean view from the main room and bedroom. The hot tub on the deck was clean with ocean sunset view. Bring warm slippers in the colder months.

Summary: What a great place to spend a few magical days on the pacific coast. This is a well maintained house and property. The hot tub overlooking the beach was amazing! The bed was super comfortable and everything was clean. We used the gas fireplace to warm up and there are two large TVs. The location is wonderful--just a few steps down to the beach. We stood on the deck and watched sea lions feeding as they swam north every day that we were there. There is a nice communal game room with ping pong that the kids loved, and the washers and dryers worked great. This rental is a fabulous place to explore the OR coast from!
