In the heart of the Riviera Maya, at only 30 min from Playa del Carmen and 90 min from Cancun, this breathtaking place is perfect for the quiet get away in a family or small group. Akumal is best known for its cristal clear waters and flora and fauna on land and in the sea. "Akumal" in the mayan language means "Land of the turtles", so THAT would be the main reason to not skip this authentic place! Whether you like scuba diving, snorkeling or just going for a swim in the sea, you are most definitely going to see those amazing creatures and its fish friends enjoying the bahia. Although this is a popular site for ecofriendly tourists, it is still one of the most secluded spots for our local animals. The neighborhood of Akumal has created an association with all the locals and owners of properties in this little town to set up guidelines and rules to allow all holiday makers to enjoy this piece of land at the fullest but still protect the jewel of Akumal! Half Moon Bay, which is a perfect and relaxing place for the turtles to come in and lay their eggs in one of the many protected areas in HMB, is where our condo is located.
A new advanced cleaning protocol has been implemented which includes, hot steam ironing of all mattresses and sofas between check ins, all pillows washed, no back to back check ins, all surfaces and handles cleaned with chlorine and/ or Lysol, plenty of hand sanitizing gel available to all guests, spray bottles with desinfectant and cleaning products available to all guests, and much more! Ask for info and get the protocol sent to you before booking.
One of the major attractions in Akumal is that it is located right at the second largest reef in the world and in its surroundings you can find more than 200 different entries to sinkholes (cenotes) and underground rivers. No matter what road you drive on or what turn you take, there is always a cenote close by to visit.
Our condo (number 6/7) is part of a condominium called La Sirena. This condo consists of two units made one! So its extra spacious, allowing maximum light and the best views of the surrounding beach, sea, pool and garden! You have it all!
The condo itself has three large bedrooms with a private bathroom each. An additional WC is right by the dining room and TV area. In addition, a bar is strategically placed by the large living room with the most spectacular view to the ocean and easy access to the balcony. Therefore, no matter whether you want to enjoy the view under the sun, heat and breeze on the balcony or from the comfort of your air conditioned bar inside, the ocean is right with you! You just take care of the drinks though :)
As a matter of fact, no matter where you are in the spacious kitchen, living room or dining room, the view is yours! Check out the pictures and see for yourself and then get a flight down here and just ENJOY!
In the evening, maybe during down time with kids, you can enjoy a movie on a brand new flat screen TV or play board games at the large dining table for 8 people.
If you are ready to explore something outside La Sirena and the condo, maybe it is time to go to Lagoon YalKu, which is a walk of literally 5 minutes. There you can snorkel some more and enjoy endless sea life.
In the evenings, a stroll in the street or along the beach leads you to quite a few local restaurants with great food! The restaurants make a huge effort to welcome their guests with live music and mexican ambience.

Summary: Beautiful, amazingly tranquil setting. You can't help but smile as you walk by the beautiful gardens and pool on your way to the condo and then instantly relax as soon as you walk through the door. The sea views are spectacular! We have stayed here multiple times with 3 adults, each of us having our own comfortable bedroom and bathroom with lots of space. We love the artwork along with the well equipped kitchen and bar. Rosa keeps everything very clean and spotless. This whole area is peaceful and the snorkeling is amazing. There is always shade and a palapa available. The host and staff are always very accommodating and friendly too!

Summary: The condo has a great view of Half Moon Bay and direct water access for snorkeling. It is large with several gathering spaces, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable king size beds. Lovely gardens surrounding the pool. We used bikes for short ride to main beach and restaurant area. Snorkel gear, swim noodles and yoga mats provided. Bring water shoes since beach entrance is rocky.

Summary: We loved everything about our stay. The service was excellent. The location was perfect. We loved every minute and we’re coming back soon. Any small issues we had were resolved very quickly with a lot of friendliness. The apartment was huge. My only very minor recommendation would be to change out the beach towels more often because they get very wet and dirty and dry slowly and only having them changed once a week was a little bit difficult for us. Our youngest child was four and I think if you had a child under three years old, the railing on the balcony would be a bit dangerous because of the large gaps. Other than that everything was amazing. The snorkeling right outside the condo was the best.

Summary: My family and I had a lovely stay at La Sirena. The unit was spacious, well equipped and we very much appreciated all of the water toys. Access into the Half Moon Bay for snorkeling is easier at La Sirena, but be sure to have water shoes. There is always enough palapas and seats on the beach. You can’t beat the pool and gardens at La Sirena. Not to mention, you can watch the sunset from the balcony, which is not possible at most complexes in half moon bay. Thank you.

Summary: We loved our stay at La Sirena!! Beautiful garden and pool area as you enter, private quiet beach area with plenty of loungers and palapas oceanside. Definitely the more quiet, peaceful end of the road compared to up near Akumal beach. The condo was one of the best equipped VRBO rentals we’ve stayed in. More than enough space for 3 couples. We each even had our own balcony off of our rooms. We loved being able to snorkel every day right out our back door. We saw 1 sea turtle, 2 spotted eagle rays, several manta rays and smaller rays. Countless colorful fish, an eel, cuttlefish, so many spiny starfish, beautiful sea fans and coral!! We brought some of our own snorkel gear but there were plenty of fins, snorkels, and life vests. If you are avid snorkelers, I'd suggest you bring your own mask. (We only found 2 that worked for our group) The only downside that we could think of is that the water pressure is very low - hard to get all the shampoo rinsed off- and it takes quite a while to heat up. It was nice to have Rosa to sweep the sand, tidy up, and put away dishes daily. If you've been to Akumal before, be warned that you are very limited in where you can snorkel for free at Akumal beach these days. That was definitely a disappointment. My daughter did see 2 turtles in the free area though.

Summary: This unit was stunning, spacious, very clean, and perfect for a family or three couples! The view from all windows was spectacular! Well appointed! The grounds of La Sirena were also gorgeous and very well taken care of!

Summary: The unit is very bright, spacious and well appointed. Located at the end of the road and very quiet. Easy access to Yal-Lu lagoon with exceptional snorkeling. We appreciated the snorkel gear and water shoes supplied in the condo. Pool is lovely - we took a dip every evening and spent days lounging at the beach, snorkeling and sightseeing. Rosa provided daily housekeeping which truly enhanced our stay! Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Summary: This place is even more beautiful in person. The furniture, art and of course the amazing view all exceeded expectations. We loved listening to the waves at night and sitting out on the balcony in the mornings and evenings. The kitchen was well stocked and so fun to cook in while watching the waves. The pool was beautiful and the beach was always clear and had available chairs. Wear water shoes as there’s a lot of coral but great snorkeling. Would highly recommend this place and Akumal was such a charming town with restaurants within walking distance.
