Positive: Staff were very pleasant, the room was comfortable and the location was beautiful and peaceful.
Negative: I did not order breakfast or dinner, which was expensive and a bit fancy. Unfortunately, there are no other options for dining in the area. Overall, overpriced (with a 'hidden onsen tax'), and rooms are too large for what you need if you're a solo traveller. Would have liked details on how to arrange private onsen access.
Summary: Very pleasant but perhaps not best suited for solo travellers

Positive: It’s in a great location and has a nice onsen. Breakfast was great.
Negative: Booking.com states the restaurant is open, while it is, you need to reserve dinner in advance. When I arrived at 5pm, the only dinner I could get was from the hotel convenience store and its microwave. I would have been great to know this in advance, as there were no other restaurants around. Also, everything in the hotel is quite dated, the pictures provided seem quite old in comparison.
Summary: Good place to stay for a night, if you’d want to enjoy an onsen in Yumoto, but don’t expect the pictures.

Positive: Staff were very friendly, shuttle bus option was excellent, lobby was comfy with a fire and lots of seating, restaurant and staff were excellent - we had a male server that spoke really good English who we really enjoyed for dinner & breakfast, private onsen was great, yukata & slippers provided were great.
Negative: Property was definitely dated - could use some updates for furniture & room designs/decor. Wish they had a kotatsu in the room!
Summary: Older property, but lots of wonderful amenities & excellent staff!

Positive: I wholeheartedly recommend the Okunikko Konishi The staff were gracious beyond measure and made or first stay at a Ryokan extremely special. I stayed with my two teenaged sons and as westerners we were slightly uncomfortable with public onsen. Private onsen here was amazing and so reasonably priced. And I had the best breakfast of my life here, with local yuba and vegetables and a hot pot of miso soup. We left a bag behind and the gentleman who checked us out was standing at the door with it when we returned! (The hotel also has a free shuttle to and from Nikko which is so handy..) Definitely stay here after or before hiking, the rooms are spacious and so comfortable. Thank you to all staff, we hope to return!
