Old Bay Hideaway is an Oceanfront cottage located in the prestigious Sanderling Community. Private Sanderling Community Clubhouse includes soundfront pool, tennis courts and access to private walk out dock for fishing. Pool is typically open from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend. Hours may vary. The Sanderling Community offers nature and bike trails from the beach to the Sound. Safe and private community. A quick bike ride to downtown Duck with all the shops and restaurants.

Old Bay Hideaway Cottage has panoramic ocean views with spectacular sunrise and sunset views. Private walkway connects to a shared private beach access to the beach. The upper level great room has a cathedral ceiling with wraparound decking on 3 sides of the home. The wrap around decking provides panoramic views of the ocean, sunrise and sunset. The spa on the top deck provides the best views of the Ocean and Sunset while enjoying a cocktail. The upper level includes Master Bedroom with a King bed. Kitchen, Dining and family room with a fireplace and full bath. The lower level kids family room with 3 bedrooms 2 Queens and 2 twins. Full bath, washer and dryer. Light fixtures with ceiling fans in all bedrooms and living areas. Key-less entry makes contactless checkin easy. Wifi is included. Sheets and towels are provided with the cleaning fee. The cottage is situated on a cul-de-sac with bike and walking trails and access to a private sound front dock for fishing and crabbing.

Summary: February 14th is the Love Holiday, but the 15th is our wedding anniversary, so a perfect week of Love was our plan! The weather cooperated, no rain, and the rental,property was perfect for us and our two dogs. Everything was as described and the updates were appreciated. Being directly on the beach we enjoyed the beautiful sunrises, sunsets, and dinner dates! The beach was stunning, even to the point of finding a half dozen perfect sand dollars. Yes- even for a February getaway, this place was perfect. Thank you!

Summary: My family traveled to the Outer Banks for New Year’s weekend. The house was perfect for the six of us. We had beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The hot tub on the deck was a great spot to relax and look at the beach during day and the stars at night. On cold days, we could sit inside in the comfortable living room and see the ocean. We had a question when we were checking in and the owner responded immediately. We have stayed at numerous house and developments in the Outer Banks over many years. We would highly recommend Old Bay Hideaway!

Summary: You really can't do better than the Old Bay Hideaway if you want to be in a quiet neighborhood and just steps away from the ocean. We loved being right on the beach! Easy to come and go multiple times throughout the day, and given the quiet neighborhood and the position of the house at the end of a cul-de-sac it felt like we had the beach all to ourselves. The deck on the top floor was the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee and watch the sunrise over the ocean. The brand new hot tub was the perfect way to relax at the end of the day and watch the stars. You can even see the Milky Way! The main living areas of the house were well-appointed and comfortable. The bedrooms were suitable for our needs (although a king-size bed would be a nice addition to the main bedroom upstairs). A few negatives -- the kitchen had ants. This is to be expected when you're basically living on top of a sand dune, and I don't think I've ever stayed at an OBX house that didn't have ants. We were able to somewhat keep them at bay with ant spray, but it was a minor annoyance. There is the normal wear and tear that you should expect from an older beach house that has been exposed to the elements for many years. Under the house is a graveyard of broken beach chairs and busted boogie boards, so plan to bring your own beach gear or rent some in town. These are minor issues, though, that are quickly forgotten when you lay your eyes on the ocean and your feet in the sand. We hope to return again!

Summary: The property was under renovation at the time of our rental (as was the property next door), which was during the off-season, so take all of this with a grain of salt (hopefully, the owner/manager intends to do more work before the next rental). Bottom Line: The biggest issue by far was that the property was not secure. I don't think a single outside door locked properly. The sliding glass door to our bedroom did not even have a secure handle!-- it fell off when I tried touching it. We hid our belongings before leaving or locked them in our vehicle. It was a little unsetting, to say the least. Little Stuff: Wiring was hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen. A storm door on the main entrance was propped up with a paint can with the new storm door leaning up against the house. The hot tub had chlorine levels that were unsafe for humans. There was a whole dustbunny farm under the upstairs bed. And the upstairs dresser drawers made my clothes smell moldy. Despite the above complaints, I would rent this house again because it was literally on the beach and the hot tub was great once we got the chemicals corrected, but I would make sure that all of the doors and locks were in order first! And bring your own spa chemicals b/c there was nothing on site when we arrived (we left the testing strips we bought for the next renters). Good luck!

Summary: I’ve stayed in this cozy and peaceful cottage for a little getaway. The view is incredible. Home is perfectly located, close to the restaurants, grocery stores and entertainment! Amazing spot for sunrise and sunset enjoyment. A lot of natural light and spacious living area makes you feel like home. Long walks on the beach or warm evening in a hot top, this cottage has it all! Mark went above and beyond to make sure I have everything I needed to enjoy my stay, fast response and great communication, incredibly accommodating. Definitely coming back!!!

Summary: There are not three queen beds—VRBO counts a pull-out couch in a common area as a bed. The whole house, particularly the upstairs bedroom, smelled like mildew. No one even bothered to hide a bucket of mold cleaner. The carpet is covered with stains and black marks.

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Outstanding location within Duck and directly on the ocean. Windows/sliders were disgustingly dirty with inch thick bugs in tracks. Carpet had stains. Wouldn't even think of walking barefoot within the home. Lower level had a terrible musty smell whereas our friends/co-renters couldn't sleep there (so we had to). A lot of deferred maintenance. Kitchen well stocked.
