2 Bedroom House in Okazaki, Kyoto

"Uan" is a charming cluster of 5 houses surrounding a quiet courtyard. This is one of the newly renovated modern traditional houses, "Uan/Hoshi". The house was built more than 100 years ago and recently renovated for a vacation home. The house still has an old atmosphere of Kyoto and provides the latest furnishings. It is fully furnished and all necessary appliances will be provided.
The Hoshi (星) House is a two-story house of 50 m2 and fully renovated in 2018. There is the full kitchen(cookware, dinnerware, seasonings, a microwave, a toaster oven, a rice cooker, a hot water kettle and more), washing machine/dryer, washing detergent, utilities, and home appliances. Of course, fresh bed/bath linen and toothbrush are provided. There are two bedrooms. 1 double bed in the western style bedroom, and 3 futon sets in the tatami room.
Located in 5 minutes walk from Higashiyama station in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto.
The Higashiyama area is considered the most Kyoto like place in Kyoto. If you are interested in temples, the most prestigious Zen temple in Japan called Nanzen-ji is near the house. Also, Heian shrine, Shoren-in, Chion-in and Yasaka shrine are within a 5-10 minute walk from the houses. You can also walk to Gion area to the downtown in Kyoto.

Summary: The Uan/Hoshi house was lovely. It is just as described and shown in the photo. The managers were helpful and quick to respond. We loved the house and having our own kitchen and washer/dryer. Only small disadvantage was bedrooms are upstairs and bathroom downstairs, but it was fine. We would definitely recommend it and stay again.

Summary: We could not have chosen a better place to stay in Kyoto. The apartment was so comfortable and cozy. The location was tucked away from main traffic but still close to the bus and train stops. But the best part was our host. He greeted us on arrival and made us feel so welcome. This is truly a great location. Thank for so much for making us feel at home. My wife and I loved it!

Summary: The place was a short distance from some local shrines and not too far from the river which made getting dinner easy. It’s two floors with the bedroom on the second floor and the bathroom/kitchen/dining/laundry on the 1st floor. Nice to have a laundry machine during the trip that washed and dried clothes.

Summary: It's a beautiful apartment with all the amenities one would want and in a quiet residential neighborhood that's convenient to public transportation. Our hosts couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful and always replied promptly to communications. I hope to revisit beautiful Kyoto in a different season and will definitely plan to stay here again.

Summary: It’s impossible not to like Kyoto, the place is magical! Temple town has so much to offer and while this was my third visit, I will be back again and hoping to stay at this lovely home again. It was a difficult to find as there are no house numbers or street signs. It’s not really a two bedroom, but the upstairs seating area next to the established bed can accommodate a futon and function as a place to sleep for another guest. Getting upstairs is a bit tricky because the wooden stairs are quite steep and slippery and there is no rail to hold on. Location was perfect and overall I’m rating this property with the maximum stars. Planning for a return in 2025.

Summary: Our family stayed at the Hoshi House and we absolutely loved it! The house is part of a small complex in a quiet historic neighborhood, a short walk from Maruyama park. The house has been beautifully restored and is perfect for those seeking tranquility after visiting Japan's more busy urban cities. The hosts were incredibly gracious and friendly and gave us a tour of the house and recommendations for local attractions. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer!
