Positive: This even exceeded my expectations. I saw the many positive reviews ... and still was positivly surprised ... This is the ideal place if you come by car (good, safe, free of charge and enough parking next to the house), a bus stop (Nr 21 "Gsengerweg") to the city center is also right there (between the parking and street with busstop is just a hedge sepatating street and house.) For me it was an ideal place to relax (very calm but safe environment, much nature) and work (desk in the room, good light). My room had a spaceful cosy balcony with view to mountains (besides: it's that mountain from the "Sound of Music poster"). Spaceful modern bathroom. Super clean,  room, even the inside the wardrobe had a fresh/neutral smell. My room was modern but cosy, perfect size, tasteful room design. There was a mini bar in my room with good choise of things, a kettle and coffee machine, teas and coffee, hair dryer, safety box, air conditioning, good size TV, sofa, balcony with comfy chairs. Nearby are several restaurants in walking distance (Lake of "Sound of Music" is just 1 km away). Breakfast is included and very good. But the best was: The owners - a family - of this pension are super kind, they really care for their house and for their guests, in the exact proper way (not too much, just right and sensitive for each guest's needs) -  I felt super good and "at home". (Little secret: "Family pension" is a bit of an understatement, the couple are both trained in hotel management, they are professionels! This is like a 4 star hotel which feels like a home!)
Negative: ALL WAS SUPER. Just for your planning: There are some things, you need to know - that is: read the info in the description and the message you get from them in advance :-) Communication with them is superb: Check in may not be not possible after 19:00. But it is really worth (!!) to plan your travel around it (so when you have a long journey, make a stop half way to arrive here the next day before 7 pm. It's worth it ! In the house you can pay in cash or EC card, no credit cards - so plan for it. You can pay here in booking (or probably their website) with credit card in advance. In the house you just need to pay the local tourist tax in cash (as common in many EU cities). It's not in the middle of the old city, but therefore has free parking and is within beautiful nature and super calm. Bus to city center stops in front of the house, takes 15 min to city centre, busses go regular till midnight. So just be aware. It's still convenient and no problem. Matresses are not like those soft things you often have in hotels, but are proper matresses, may feel harder than in other hotels, but are very comfortable, I slept very well. So: Having read these things in advanve I have NOTHING TO COMPLAIN. ALL WAS SUPER.

Positive: Many who let out apartments and rooms expect the highest possible rating. The rating system can be deceptive. Only once around the world have I actually considered the highest rating possible. That is Ballwein. Why? Because this pleasant, kind, warm and welcoming couple has managed to pull off something exceptional despite no other staff than themselves. From our arrival to the unavoidable departure everything was amazing. The place is located just 2,5 km from Salzburg centre, which you easiest reach by bus. The apartment looked brand new. The breakfast had a presentation and taste that was second to none. So, Daniela and Simon, Congratulations!
