Weather in San Sebastian
The Climate of San Sebastián
San Sebastián boasts a pleasant maritime climate, characterized by warm summers, mild winters and generous rains throughout the year.
Summer has an average of 18 ºC, with maximums that do not usually rise above 30 ºC, although they can drop in the afternoons, so do not hesitate to bring a light coat if you are going to walk along the beach or the promenade. The rains are not as copious as during the rest of the year, but downpours are common. You can enjoy 10 hours of sunshine a day during the summer season. The temperate (and often violent) waters of the bay are around 19-22 ° C, ideal for practicing water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, bodyboarding or scuba diving.
In winter temperatures are around 9ºC and rarely fall below 5ºC. It is the wettest and windiest season, although the water temperatures are still temperate, between 9-13 ºC. The best way to warm up is to eat at a traditional cider house and enjoy the aroma of freshly opened cider barrels.
If you choose to visit San Sebastián in spring and autumn you will find mild temperatures and an average of 8 and a half hours of sunshine during the day, although these stations are famous for their unpredictable weather conditions. For those who wish to take a dip in the bay, it is preferable to do so in early autumn rather than late spring, due to the water temperatures.

Summary: We stayed 3 months in the gorgeous apartment overlooking Zurriola beach. It was a magical stay and will definitely be back again. The neighbourhood was so friendly and welcoming and in the 3 months made some great friends. The flat itself had the best views and waking up every morning to the sound of the beach was sensational. Maria made the stay so easy and she had a wealth of knowledge on the area. Can't wait till I head back :)

Summary: Our month stay was fantastic! If you are considering this residence make sure you are among those who love lots of activity, large gatherings, and a bit of noise in the evenings. That said, with the incredible views on the balcony and the comfort of the apartment we would definitely do it all again.

Summary: I found the owners of the property very helpful and obliging on the day we arrived and the 5th floor apartment is very nice with lovely views. the deposit was returned very quickly and without a prompt and overall I could not fault the whole experience. the building housing the apartment is a bit run down but it didn't detract from the overall experience and i've come on holiday to enjoy myself and not to buy the property. and of course san Sebastian is a brilliant place to stay with the 3 beaches, history and places to eat.

Summary: This was our first visit to San Sebastian and we were welcomed graciously by Maria and her son David. This penthouse apartment had everything we needed. There is a little market and bar right downstairs and the beach is just across the street. The view from the large balcony was outstanding. The location was just a short walk to dining and shopping and it was fun to get to know the neighborhoods.

Summary: My husband and I decided to do an Iberian Peninsula Roadtrip for our honeymoon with San Sebastian being the main destination where we'd stay a whole week. The food, basque culture and beautiful mountains and beaches were the main draw. We're adventurous and laid back but obviously enjoy comfortable amenities too. Therefore, we chose Maria's apartment. We wanted to stay beachfront with a view and an outdoor space to relax on -- without these things, a vacation can feel more like a hustle where you have to stay out all day and night to feel part of the city you're in. Maria's was perfect. FOr instance, after hiking to the beautiful Pasaje de San Juan (a 3 hr hike -- the entrance 5 mins from Maria's apt) we bussed back and were home around 5pm. With dinner not until 9/10, we wanted to relax but didn't feel like packing a big bag after our already-full day and going down to the beach. Instead, we hung out on the porch watching the surfers, reading, and having a cocktail. This is what our days were like: PERFECT. It's hard to relax in a hotel room for 4-5 hours and not get stir crazy, but with the views and outdoor space at Maria's, there was no problem with any of that. We eased into our mornings with breakfast & coffee on the porch (there's a small family grocery directly under the apt with eggs, cheese, incredible fruit, cold coffees etc). In the afternoons we surfed on Zurriola beach, hiked, or walked around town. At night, of course, we ate and ate and ate. This is in Gros, it isn't in the Old Town or La Concha but it's only a 10 minute walk beautiful along the way. In fact, we much preferred Gros to Old Town or La Concha - they were very nice to visit, but a little cramped and stuffy to stay in...meanwhile, Gros is like Brooklyn but on the beach. It's the locals area, the surfers beach, and much more relaxed, artistic and even more affordable. The beds were very comfortable and the showers (2 bathrooms) had fantastic pressure and water. I'm not sure if there was AC but you truly don't need it if the temps are below 75 during the day and in the 50s/low 60s at night (and I'm a diva when it comes to AC); the fan is fine. The decor and furniture isn't high-end, but there's no real reason to stay in watching TV on the couch anyway. We plan on doing a roadtrip from Biarritz to Portugal within the next few years and definitely want to stay at Maria's again. Thank you!

Summary: There were 5 of us here for Christmas and New Year. Plenty of room, each of the 3 bedrooms had this view. Love the sound of the ocean. Local cafe downstairs with food and drinks. Small food shop too. 15 minute walk to old town. More (good) restaurants than you could visit in a lifetime. Buses take you everywhere, no need for a car. Pamplona & Bilbao 1 hr, France 1/2 hr. We're from San Francisco, a city that's very easy on the eye. This place will blow you away. Volveré.

Summary: This is a clean and lovely apartment overlooking the surfing beach. You sleep and wake to the sound of ocean waves and surfers shuffling themselves out to sea. We were traveling as a family of 4 plus grandma. The children ages 10 and 7 slept on the floor in the "living area/den" that has a pull out futon type couch. There is a full bath with bidet off the kitchen/dining area and another bath off the master bedroom. All the rooms are along the balcony which is nice though is gets evening sun and can be quite hot. There is so much to do in San Sebastian we were hardly ever staying inside after the sun starting beating in and didn't generally come home until the cool evening breeze swept the the hot air out. It was great to get to hang the laundry on the clothesline out the kitchen window that opens to the inner courtyard area. The apartment is small and not meant to do extensive cooking in. But it worked even for the 5 of us. There is a sweet grocery shop right downstairs selling fresh fruits and veggies and pretty much anything you might need for breakfast and picnic lunches. yummm It is nice to stay off the main tourist strip where you feel more a part of local life but it was a little bit of a trek to get to the beach that is more swimmable for kids. Also the apartment is right at the entrance to the 4mi hike to pasajes de san pedro a small fishing village to the east that was a phenomenal hike and then the most lovely visit and meal in the small town. bus back home was welcome after such a long and thirsty walk. Owner is available and quite responsive for any mishaps or questions. Quite a pleasure to work with. Thank you for everything Maria!
