Bouteilles-Saint-Sebastien House | Pure Tranquility - a beautiful place to relax and explore the countryside

2 Bedroom House in Bouteilles-Saint-Sebastien, St Sebastien

Our hilltop farmhouse, for your exclusive and private use, is in a small hamlet set high up amongst fields and woods, with wonderful views and a 'big' sky. It has been lovingly restored, offering an attractive and generously equipped interior, prepared by owner and his late American wife.
The large covered, furnished balcony is a place of extraordinary relaxation.
The pool has a sun deck and wonderful views.
We are very popular with couples who want a private home to unwind in, after busy marriage celebrations and/or working life.
There are stairs up to the bedrooms, and stairs at the back of the house from the kitchen door down to the car parking and outside area.
Babies are welcome however we do not provide any baby equipment.
The nearest big villages are St. Severin and Verteillac. The surrounding countryside is full of history and offers many leisure facilities, including wonderful canoeing on the River Dronne, tennis and riding. Strolling along country lanes, with fantastic views, is recommended; two good quality bikes are also provided.
Property Overview:
The exterior of La Croix farmhouse reflects its long history, blending well into the other few buildings in the hamlet. The large courtyard is sheltered by the ancient barn, the garden opens onto the wonderful views, pool and its sundeck.
The house is on three floors.
Top floor:
The double bedroom, twin bedroom and separate fully fitted bathroom. This is a conversion from the old granary and there are some low ceilings and doorways.
Middle level:
The large, very light well proportioned salon has a window and three glazed doors, the front door to the lane, rear door to a landing with stairs to the courtyard and doors to the large balcony room. An air conditioning unit has been professionally installed in this area.
The kitchen has a work island with solid wood chopping board, fridge and dishwasher. The pots, pans, food processor, knives and utensils are mostly imported from America and of a very good quality and reflect the fact that the American owners love to buy the excellent local produce and cook.
The cooker has 5 burners and an electric grill inset in the gas oven.
The table comfortably seats 6 or you can eat on the sheltered furnished balcony, or down on the ancient stone table in the courtyard, or under the old walnut tree.
The large leather sofa and adjacent leather chair encourage relaxing, reading one of the many paperbacks provided, or watching the TV, which has English free channels. There is also WIFI.
The sitting end of the salon opens onto the large, furnished balcony, where meals may also be taken at the table or seated on the very comfortable futon sofa. The view from here is magnificent.
Courtyard level (Cave):
A large utility room with washing and drying machines, large sink, second fridge freezer and direct access to the courtyard, through barn type doors. Storage space for the two good quality bicycles.
The courtyard:
Shaded parking under the balcony.
A shower and separate toilet accessed directly from the courtyard. There is a stone table and gas BBQ.
There are several parasols, cushions, chairs and sun loungers for you to arrange as you wish and further shade under the lovely huge walnut tree.
Further down the garden, past the barn, the pool and sundeck offer the chance for a cooling dip and to sunbathe and enjoy the view.

Summary: We had a lovely stay at La Croix, a peaceful and well kept base to explore the local area. The house provides everything you need to rest and relax, inside and out. The veranda was a fantastic place to have our meals, with a fantastic view and space for the whole family, rain or shine. The pool provided a place to cool down after a day out exploring and has amazing views and the children loved the table tennis table. The local villages have nice restaurants (Verteillac and Bourdeilles and Brantôme were our highlights) and the local supermarkets have everything you need. I would say there are less ‘big’ attractions nearby for our children who are 8-10 but they love exploring the countryside and we managed to fit in Accro-branche, mini golf and a corn-field maze locally which was great. Thank you!

Summary: WOW! What can I say wonderful place very quaint and typically French , peace and quiet from dawn till dusk. A little low upstairs especially if you're tall ( good job were not ) the light system took a bit of working out but neither would put me off for a return visit 😊 Lovely elderly lady nextdoor too

Summary: We had a fantastic stay at the property. It is very well equipped and beautifully furnished. It is in a very quiet location and the pool has incredible views across the countryside. It is in short driving distance of a small town that has a well stocked spar, bank, boulangerie and a couple of restaurants. We would highly recommend and definitely stay again.

Summary: This is our first time booking something on vrbo so didn't really know what to expect but it was a very good experience. When we were arrived at the house at La Croix it was just perfect for what we wanted after a busy week at eurocamp. The photos do not do this place a justice at all, it is very spacious with a lot of charm and nice little extra like the ping-pong table that my son and I loved. The place is very well equipped for everything you need and it's not too far to the spar or a Boulangerie. The beds are very comfortable and the air con in the house was very welcome when it was hot. The open air eating area was lovely for breakfast but where this place really shines is the pool area surrounded by the sunflowers which bloomed during our stay. This made for a perfect birthday for my wife which was during our stay at la croix. Helen and her husband were both very nice and welcoming to us. Also when staying at this house make sure you give a wave to Madame Thomas who lives next door who will give you a massive smile and wave as you pass. The place is very rural and not effected by noise or light pollution which is great when a storm rolls in! We would definitely stay here again and I have already recommended it to friends. Thank you to all for a great stay. From the O'Leary family.

Summary: We found a dreamlike house in this quiet place and felt very comfortable there. It is a very lovingly furnished domicile, where it is wonderful to relax. The charming surrounding villages also invite to be visited. So, unfortunately, the week went by much too quickly.

Summary: My partner and I stayed for a second time at La Croix. It is such an ideal property if you're looking for peace, quiet, and really impressive sunsets. The house was clean and tidy again and Helen was responsive and so helpful in the check in/check out process. The days were full of sun by the pool and the evenings were full of local Bordeaux wine - we will definitely be back!

Summary: This is a lovely property. Helen the host helped with any question before and during our stay. The kitchen is well equipped with nice equipment and crockery. Certainly better than the usual rental kitchen. The location is very rural with hardly any passing traffic in the day. The pool is a great sun trap and gets the sun all day until the sun goes down. The views are just awesome and the photos on the site don’t do the these or the property justice really. There is a shooting and archery outfit a few km away which is fun for a few hours and local Boulangeries make great pastries and breads, but go in the morning or the good stuff will have gone! There is lots of leisure equipment also like table tennis, bbq, darts, bikes and boules ready to use in the property. We had a lovely relaxing week and really do recommend this place if you want a scenic, quiet piece of France to escape to.

Summary: Lovely property at the top of a hill in a very quiet area. The views are as good as they look in the pics. Very clean and great set up with everything you need, incliding some nice surprises like things for the pool and boule ready for you. The main living space is great and the kitchen is very well set up with everything you need for cooking (which is rare in rentals like this). The quirks of the property are highlighted in the description - it's got low ceilings upstairs, and the shower is underneath the main lviing area. Location is isolated but only 10 mins drive to bakery/grocery/restaurants. Overall we rate this place really highly and would stay again.
