Positive: I was touring Hokkaido by bicycle and stayed in maybe 10 hotels during this trip. Many of them were nice and many of them were luxurious. This is the one I will remember in 20 years. It's all because of the exceptional friendliness and hospitality of the host. I say host. As he said, it's more of like a homestay experience than a hotel. I had read this in some of the reviews, and it's why I booked this particular place - the reviews said he was a cool guy that loved to chat as much as you felt like it, so that seemed appealing - especially since I was traveling alone. I thought it might be nice to have some folks to talk to. All I can say is that it was exactly what I was hoping it would be like. His place only ever has 3 rooms booked at any given time. When I was there, one other guest was also there. On one of the nights, our host (Yuki) made us dinner, which was outstanding. He wasn't trying to upsell anything, it was just Saturday night and he thought it would be fun for us to have a dinner together. He was very careful to offer space if you didn't feel like hanging out, but I was interested, so we ended up talking for a long time after dinner. His English is extremely good, so you can definitely have a deep conversation if you're in the mood for that. He also speaks or is learning a few other languages. He's just really interested in people, which is a great quality to have in a host. He's also really into traditional Japanese culture and food, as much as he's into learning about others, so he loves explaining or discussing aspects of Japan that you might have questions about. The Inn is a business, for sure, but he has a day job that he does remotely while running the inn, so he really seems to do it because he wants to meet interesting people and to share Japanese culture with like-minded people from other places.
Summary: An excellent traditional inn - large rooms, common space, near onsen, great host and vibe!

Positive: This traditional Japanese Inn offers a unique and authentic experience. The inn provides convenient shuttle service from the pier, making arrival and departure seamless. During my stay, I reserved an e-bike for a day, and the experience was fantastic—perfect for exploring the scenic surroundings. kitchen includes cooking utensils and a refrigerator, allowing guests to prepare simple meals or enjoy a personalized breakfast. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring a warm and welcoming stay. In the evening, visiting the nearby onsen was a delightful and convenient way to unwind.
Negative: The room’s door could use some attention; it would be great if it could slide more smoothly.

Positive: The location is great, right in the middle of Kutsugata and within walking distance of many restaurants and a Seicomart (though to be fair, Kutsugata itself isn't a large town). Staying at the inn itself was like living in a local Japanese house, which was a great experience - everything was clean and comfortable, and the inn was interestingly decorated with antiques & souvenirs the host picked up from his extensive travels. Speaking of which, Yuki was was easily one of the most thoughtful hosts I've ever had: from the pick-up to the drop-off at the ferry terminal, he was generous with tips and advice on things to see, do, and eat in Kutsugata, the rest of Rishiri Island, and even neighbouring Rebun Island. He went above and beyond to make my trip the best it could be: calling fishermen to see if they had caught any sea urchins after hearing that I wanted to try some, inviting me to come along to a ramen lunch with other guests at the inn, and calling a bike shop on Rebun Island to see if they could reserve an e-bike for me for the next leg of my trip. He was also just super friendly, down to earth, and easy to talk to. I'd highly recommend staying at this inn - it truly is a hidden gem and I have no doubt at all that Yuki will ensure that your trip feels warm and personal :).
Negative: Can't think of anything!
Summary: Hidden gem on Rishiri

Positive: i don’t think i would enjoy rishiri this much if i haven’t stayed at this place. yuki is an impeccable host, knows a lot about this island and many things as he himself is a seasoned traveler as well. couldn’t recommend this place more. moreover, staying in kutsugata area where this inn is located gives you more choice of restaurant, including the incredibly famous ramen place, miraku, compared to oshidomari area close to the ferry terminal/airport.
Negative: nothing
Summary: would definitely stay here again the next time i visit rishiri

Positive: We had a fantastic time on the Vulcano-Island. The Host -Yuki- gives very helpful informations about all the activities/places to go on the Island, provides transportation from Ferry/Airport and back and is very motivated to give insights about japanese culture. The Accommodation provides a washing-mashine, very convenient rooms and even an iron.

Positive: Centrally located Guesthouse and nice, clean rooms. Best thing about the Inn is the Host Yuki. He picked us up at the ferry terminal and drove us there as well. He took us to stores, gave us great hints about restaurants, Onsen and even helped us get the right bus / looked up busstop times, while we were waiting. His English is very good, he is funny and not just someone who rents out a room but a pleasure to be around.
Summary: Great stay. Will definitely stay at Yukis place, if I go to Rishiri again.

Positive: Perfectly located with a very knowledgeable local host who went out of his way to make sure I enjoyed myself and had a good time. I stayed in a room in what is a cute local Japanese house, where you also have access to shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. It really feels like you are staying at a friend's house! I also strongly recommend Yuki's island tour which showed off many interesting and beautiful spots on the island. Hoping I get a chance to return!
Summary: Super friendly host shares his lovely home... really feels like you are staying at a friend's house!
