Welcome to River Ridge! Built in 2018, this is a unique and outstanding vacation rental located about 7 miles southwest of Fishtail, MT at the base of the Beartooth Mountains on the West Rosebud River. The rental unit is a private suite with its own access on the lower level of a large, beautiful, custom home. The house is located on a ridge just above the river with magnificent views on all sides. The property consists of 16 acres with a quarter mile of easily accessible, winding riverfront with several walking trails and fishing holes.
The private suite has two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, a living room, full bath, a large well-equipped kitchen, a laundry room, a beautiful covered patio with furniture, an outdoor grill and a propane fire pit.
This is a perfect place to kick back and relax without having to go anywhere. Simply enjoy the amazing mountain views, walk along the river, get your toes wet, explore the aspen and cottonwood groves, cross over to the small island, or try your luck at fishing.
You can also take advantage of the many recreational activities in the local area such as exceptional hiking, fishing, floating, biking, birding, off-road riding and horseback riding.
There are many trailheads nearby for outstanding day hikes such as Ernie Strum (7 mi away), Mystic Lake (14 mi away), East Rosebud (22 mi away), Woodbine Falls and Sioux Charlie (23 mi away), and many other trailheads near Red Lodge (29 mi away). The town of Red Lodge itself is worth a visit.
This part of Montana is a hidden treasure and incredibly beautiful. The Absaroka-Beartooth Mountains are the highest mountains in Montana maxing out at 12,807 ft on Granite Peak just over the horizon. Although the West Rosebud River is literally in your backyard, there are several other nearby rivers to explore including the Stillwater, the East Rosebud, and the Yellowstone for your hiking, fishing or floating pleasure.
The property is on the northeast edge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Yellowstone National Park is about 50 miles to the southwest as the crow flies, or about 100 miles by car to the northeast entrance across the Beartooth Highway (a National Scenic Byway - All American Road). Deer, elk, turkey, birds of prey and an occasional bear, moose, wolf or mountain lion may be seen in the local area.
Some other points of interest relatively close for shopping, dining or entertainment include the Fishtail General Store (7 mi), Montasia (the old Cowboy Bar, 7 mi), Grizzly Bar (9 mi), Stillwater Bar and Grill (the old Wild Flower Kitchen, 11 mi), Tippet Rise Art Center (incredible place, must Google!, 12 mi), City of Absarokee (12 mi), Niemi's Rosebud Cafe (12 mi), Touch of Country (12 mi), Carter’s Camp Bar (23 mi), City of Columbus (28 mi), City of Red Lodge (29 mi), Pig Races at the Beartooth Saloon (36 mi), and City of Billings (70 mi).

Summary: It's hard to say which was better, the location itself or our hosts. Bill, Suzy, and Rosie (and Bigfoot) couldn't have been more pleasant, warm and helpful. They were really more like the concierge team at a five-star resort. We couldn't figure out how to use our oven (yes, we do have electric ovens in Kansas), so Bill came down and fixed it while Suzy took our dishes upstairs to cook. They also gave us lots of hints and ideas of things to do in the area. They are really experienced hosts, as they anticipated everthing, and I do mean everything! Rosie, the Wonder Dog, loved to keep us company. The location couldn't have been better. The pictures on VRBO, as beautiful as they are don't do justice to the setting or the location itself. It was spotlessly clean, tastefully and luxuriously furnished, and the landscaping (again) was five-star resort class. It's convenient to Red Lodge, Fishtail, Roscoe, and Absarokee, as well as all the spectacular hiking trails, lakes, and streams. It simply couldn't have been any nicer-you spoiled us for lesser stays! Again, a million thank yous to Bill and Suzy. We very much look forward to returning!

Summary: As we mentioned in the previous review, we were so happy with our first stay that we immediately booked a second stay. And just as was the case with the first stay, we could not have been happier with our wonderful hosts, inviting accommodations, and inspiring location. Summary: This place was a dream (Fishtail and the cabin.) The owners were so gracious and accomodating in every way possible. The cabin was extremely clean with all of the modern convieniences like WIFI, washer and dryer and anything you need to cook or grill. It's perfectly located near fabulous hiking trails and outstanding fly fishing spots. We came to fly fish and to say we were overly impressed is an understatement. The fly fishing spots were literally all around us and we caught a good amount of trout too. We hope to come back to fish some more and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay in the Fishtail, MT area. Big shout out to River Ridge and its owners- we absolutely LOVE this place!!! :)
