Summary: We had the most wonderful time staying at Maria’s place! The property is absolutely stunning and the view from the back of the house is incredible. Maria is so kind and caring, we felt as if we were staying with family. We were only there for 3 nights, but we wish we could have stayed for much longer. Thank you for such a warm welcome and relaxing stay!! We hope to be back in the near future.

Summary: Gianni and Maria rebuilt an original farmhouse on a hill overseeing a valley. They are the best hosts you could hope for, warm and helpful. There are many exciting villages in the vicinity, like Bagnoreggio, the disappearing city, Lubriano, with its "flower trail," or Orvieto, home of one of the most beautiful cathedrals in all Italy. Olive groves and vineyards fill the countryside and in fall, figs, persimmons and chestnuts grow at every corner. The weather is mild, even in November. Podere Porcino offers two guest apartments, an actual theater and a conference building for anything from gym classes to cooking sessions. Our apartment was very cosy; it has its own wood stove, but also modern heating, a bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. You can hike or bike for days. There are Etruscan caves, farms, country villas, waterfalls and the Tiber river runs nearby. Also, Rome and Florence are each about an hour away from Alviano, the nearest train stop.

Summary: Maria and her family have created a wonderful retreat overlooking stunning views. After a busy time of touring the cities, it was a perfect place to rest, to visit with friends and to enjoy the beauty of this area. The apartments are cozy, clean and comfortable. It is well located to visit the surrounding hill towns and we were greeted like friends. I would love to return some day!

Summary: podere porcino is a beautiful yard on the hills of latium. when you're dining on the green area of maria's (hostess) wonderfully arranged garden (there's extremely good smelling lavender, huge rosemary and salvia bushes, oregano, thyme and especially tenderly red poppies everywhere!), you look in the valley where castiglione lies - and in the evening, when it's dawning, this small village slowly lightens up. scenically there's so much beauty to discover. podere porcino is circled by so many old, historical villages and small towns (see civita di bagnoregio!), so if you like history you'll find your happiness for sure. if the wanderlust is taking over, just go for it: there are so many paths you can walk and enjoy all the smell of nature. but if you also need peace as i did, you can also stay in podere porcino and have a sit in the garden, take a walk through the silver olive trees (maria and gianni make their own olive oil). you also can enjoy the neighbour's sangiovese or merlot (the latter is highly recommended!). and ask for olives and cheese, you won't regret that piece of italian cuisine culture. both flats are beautifully arranged and cosy. and for all that maria makes a good price. well, at least i really don't regret it. also if you're a traveler and not a tourist, i recommend you this place very much, because you don't see that much tourists in latium as you see them in toscana - everyone goes to toscana, but if you're someone who fancies discovering stuff on your own, then latium's a better place for you. also you can reach rome in an hour/hour and a half by train. maria is a great hostess, she speaks both german and italian. i really enjoyed my stay for which i'm very thankful to her (she took great care of me, because as i arrived i was one huge mess). thank you maria and gianni for the great stay!

Summary: Podere Porcino is a very nice and rural place, with lots of interesting stuff in the nearby landscape. The place is situated in the middle of the lovely Italian countryside, not too long from the either the sea, Rome, or the wineyards in the southern part of Tuscany. A quick trip to the local supermarket gives you lots of good local food, wine and beer. A trip to Civita Bagnoregio on top of an old volcano is also recommended, it gives a good view over the nearby sand cliffs, which are some of the stranger geological formations you can find in Italy. Take a walk amidst the cliffs, they are like mesas made of sand. The local restaurant has a menu of the day wich is delicious. The property is very nice, lots of strange fruits and trees, very well mantained. We were received us as a part of the family - we would really recommend a visit to Podere Porcino!
