Summary: So quiet and peaceful. Wild animals, including spider monkeys, literally right outside your door. The huge wild and empty beach provided not only great walks but an amazing nighttime symphony together with the rain and various animal calls.

Summary: This place is truly part of the jungle - we saw tons of bird and had monkeys, coatis and even a huge spider inside of the treehouse. We felt one with nature, while still living in a very clean and comfortable space. There were no mosquitos at night which was a pleasant surprise! When we arrived Joel greeted us with a smile and even helped us make a dinner reservation down the road at Encanta La Vida since we didn't bring much food with us. In hindsight, having less food in the cabin and eating at local restaurants might have been a blessing because more food = more wildlife trying to take your food lol A few drawbacks of this place: the photos are not updated so what you don't see is a large home that sits on the property to the front right of the treehouse. It takes away from the view and the private, secluded feeling a bit. The pump for the waterfall/pool area did not work, leaving a stagnant pool of water sitting in the back of the treehouse. There was animal feces in the pool on multiple days, which my husband cleaned out because Joel had left town and the replacement caretaker did not speak English (we did not have cell reception or wifi to use Google translate). The outdoor kitchen area looked pretty shabby and run down, not at all as it does in the photos. Bit of an eyesore. Aside from those few minor drawbacks, our stay here was a very positive experience! We enjoyed feeling one with nature and would absolutely stay here again.

Summary: The tree house was clean, luxurious and beautiful. The grounds are amazing. One criticism is the infinity pool never worked. The caretaker quickly took care of any concerns we had. Another concern is we reached out to the property manager for guidance on what to buy and bring to the treehouse such as food, etc and we never heard back. We didn’t realize we would have a full size refrigerator so we did not buy enough groceries. Because of the difficulty with the roads and actually getting to the treehouse, this would have been helpful because heading back into town was not an easy thing to do. Having said all that, our experience was one we will never forget. Joel, the caretaker, was so kind and helpful. He was always on site which was reassuring. The closeness to the jungle/forest was exhilarating and calming. The beauty of the place is indescribable. The ocean was closer than we expected and the sound of the sea, the monkeys howling and the birds as well as everything else we heard was like an orchestra. It was amazing and we would go again. We were pleasantly surprised not to have to worry about flying insects, however, this may not be the case all year round. Be prepared to have birds fly through and an occasional visit from monkeys, all of this just made the experience that much more remarkable. Joel and his family went out of their way to explain the different wildlife and abundance of fruit and beauty of the area.

Summary: Casa Contiki is an amazingly beautiful, relaxing, and unique place to stay! The property has a couple of rental houses on it, one of which was under construction while we were there and one of which was also rented out. The shared yard/garden/outdoor kitchen area (shared between Contiki and their larger group building) were GORGEOUS and well kept, and full of interesting wildlife. The manager Joel was very helpful and was available if we needed anything during our stay. The Contiki hut itself is open-air, with a helpful mosquito net over the bed, an outdoor shower, tub, and lounge pool area, and a nicely equipped kitchen. The cabinets and fridge need to be secured because the monkeys will do their best to break in and get your snacks! We saw a variety of monkeys, frogs, lizards, and a large Iguana who lives in the tree by the hut. You absolutely need a 4x4 to get out to the property, from PJ the road turns to gravel and serious potholes for about 30 minutes, then you turn off onto what, in the U.S.A., we would call a 4x4 track through several secluded properties and resorts near the beach. These roads are pretty standard for backcountry CR, but if you aren't a regular offroad driver they may seem very challenging. A high clearance 4x4 would be best, we did okay with a rental Renault but would have preferred higher clearance. Take your time getting there and bring all of your groceries for your stay - you won't want to have to run back into town.

Summary: There was t anything that I didn’t love about this experience. The first night I was a little nervous to be sleeping in something that would expose me to the jungle. But I some how managed to have the best four nights of sleep that I’ve had in a very long time. Even with the monkeys screaming at each other in the middle of the night. We enjoyed the views and the jungle animals coming to visit. The road in previous reviews was already described and I’d have to agree with them. We are well versed in driving in favorable conditions, using a 4 wheel drive and maneuvering through opticals. This road… yikes! To even call it a road doesn’t describe it. It’s more like driving down a dried up river bed!! When they say get the 4x4. Get it! The only thing that was a bit annoying but nothing that would change my 5 star rating is the directions that Vacasa provided. They did not have the proper property pinned. The area is so remote, I lost cell service and was literally dead in the water. Thankfully everyone in the area is so helpful. We pulled into a near by resort and they allowed us to connect tot hero wifi, make phone calls to Vacasa to get back on track. The other thing very frustrating Vacasa never included the name of the property when providing information to us. Which made it difficult for the locals that were trying to help, to help point us in the correct direction. Upon arriving, the property didn’t have a sign like most do. That would’ve been helpful. We were informed after arriving that Vacasa was suppose to inform us that the wifi was down. That was a little disappointing, since we were so remote. It was a 45-60 mi it’s drive to town. So having a little bit of connection to the outside world would’ve been nice. But with that being said, we managed for four nights. We have no regrets and look forward to booking the same location again. It was full of education, relaxation, and entertainment. We had everything that we needed and then some. The property manager was so helpful and amazing.

Summary: The property is amazing! A well manicured jingle oasis. The house is breath takingly beautiful and was very clean and set up very well. Joel, the caretaker, is a gem, and was extremely pleasant and attentative, helping us with local intel and providing us with everything we needed. Rolando, the gardener is a very sweet man and loved sharing the fruits, literally, of the land with us, and Jorje, the handyman, was very helpful. Overall amazing experience!

Summary: This place may not be for everyone. We were visited by: flying ants one night attracted by the lights, a scorpion in one the clothes drawer, coatis on several occasions, in the absolute dead of night we had a full-blown monkey fight 2 feet from the bed when they couldn't get the fridge open, bats visit the bathing pools, a spider the size of my hand was creeping around on the rocking chair and another one like it was behind the toilet. The night noises of Nature are loud but not as loud as at 4AM - you won't be sleeping in. The Matapolo Beach Road is a rough ride. And this may be the best place I've ever stayed in my life. It is situated at the end of the road, with a stunning view, the insects really aren't that big a deal - I never saw a mosquito in a week, several amazing beaches close by within walking distance, Joel is an unbeatable host, Puerto Jiminez is an easy drive and has everything you need, and Big Nature is in your face. I only wish we had booked it for longer.

Summary: First - the details you NEED to know! When they say a 4x4 is needed to access the location, they are not kidding. DO NOT let the rental company stick you with a AWD Kia Sportage like they gave us. It is not enough. You need a Montero, Prado or other high-clearance vehicle. Next, the WiFi was out and apparently Vacasa knew this (according to our hosts) but there was no communication about that to us. Didn't mind that it was out but if you need to be in touch with the world, it could be an issue. Finally - if you have an issue with bugs, like the 3 inch long crickets that came by to say "Hi!" each night, might want to choose a place with actual walls. So why did we still rate it 5 stars? Because this is truly one of the most beautiful and amazing places we have ever stayed and we cannot wait to return. The hosts were amazing and there is so much wildlife in the area that we cancelled our tour and just did day hikes from our room. coatimundis and monkeys and macaws and lizards and the cutest pair of tree frogs ever could be seen from the hammock or actually visited us in the room. The waves are some of the best I've ever surfed, the King Louis Waterfall is a short (but not easy) walk and there is so...much...beauty. Yes - the larger waves are pretty loud and at about 4:30am the howler monkeys will let you know which tree they've claimed. But if you want to get away from the world and into nature. This is THE best place in Costa Rica we've ever stayed (and I've been everywhere from Tamarindo to Pavones).
