For over 70 years our family has owned Mom and Pop's cottage. Reputed to be the first home on Honest Point. the cottage is the epitome of relaxed uncomplicated living. The house was renovated and upgraded for guests about 8 years ago and we continue to add improvements as the needs arise.
Mom and Pop's cottage is situated on deep water and has a small beach. The shore drops off slowly providing small children with safe places to play in the water. The surrounding acres provide ample opportunities for children and pets to roam around. The owner's family lives in the house next door and is immediately available should there be problems but otherwise tries to leave guests alone to enjoy Mom and Pop's without interference.
The interior includes an equipped kitchen, two bedrooms, (a queen bed in one, 2 doubles in the other), one bathroom w shower, living room office space and two screened porches.
The house is located in the historic Northern Neck region of Virginia. Enjoy crabbing, fishing, boating, kayaking, winery tours, local breweries, and the historic homes of George Washington, Robert E Lee and James Monroe.
If you prefer wildlife rather than night life this is the place for you. Wake up each morning to eagles, geese, herons, and local crabbers fishing their pots. This is a quiet rural location with plenty of acreage which will give you the chance to get away from the bustle and stress of the city. Most amenities can be reached within 30 minutes.
A note for those from the city -- we live in an area where "critters" are a fact of life. Some of them are a pleasure to see and some of them are a nuisance. We make every effort to accent the positive and eliminate the negative critters that you may encounter . Should you encounter any unwelcome visitors you should call us immediately and we will address the problem.

HURRICANE and INCLEMENT weather policy. If weather conditions threaten your trip, contact the owner by telephone or text before cancelling or travelling. Generally speaking, if the house is safe and ready for occupancy, there will be no refunds made. If the owner has to cancel your reservation for safety or other reasons, you will receive a refund. Other options such as rescheduling may apply so be sure to call or text.
PET POLICY -- We love having dogs visit and they are free to use the property unleashed. Please note that there is a $25/pet per stay fee payable at the property.
CHECK IN AND OUT TIMES -- These times vary depending on the surrounding reservations. If there are other guests arriving or departing on the same days your arrive or depart your check in times will be 4:00 PM and check out times will be 10:00 AM. Otherwise you are free to check in and out at your convenience. I will notify you about these times during our messages.

Summary: We loved the house and the location being fairly remote yet amenities nearby to fill our needs. We are very familiar with the area but were new to this particular house. The 2 dogs loved the beach area and the big yard to run around. Kitchen was well equipped, and I even made grape jelly during our stay. We loved the two screened in porches as they were lovely when the weather was rainy. We will likely rent again in the future.

Summary: Wonderful pet friendly cottage on the water. Very relaxing location and the screened in porches were a great plus to help stimulate our dogs during the heat of the day. The cottage was stocked with almost anything you could think of including common condiments. Nancy also accommodated a change of dates for us as well without an issue.

Summary: Very good experience, my son enjoyed the beach to the fullest, my wife and I enjoyed the panoramic view, the crabs, the blue crab and the fishing. Summary: If I could own a river house, I would want it to be just like this one, beautiful and peaceful views, quaint and charming inside, a two great screened in porches, where we spent most of our time. Summary: I don't think I could encompass what a wonderful stay we had in one short review. The description and overview of the property is straight forward and provides great detail, including the uniqueness of this rental. The cottage itself is nestled under towering, giant, pines, and dense green foliage. Creating a level of privacy and comfort, even though there is another house nearby, you still feel like you're in an enchanted little forest. The interior of the cottage is well maintained with attention paid to the lovely historic aspects of what I can only imagine is an original Northern Neck river front home. From the built-in to the vintage sconces, original flooring and pine cabinets. The cottage is also immaculate. We travel with our dogs A LOT, and we have never stayed at a pet friendly rental that was so clean and well maintained! You can tell immediately that this property is close to the heart of the owners as you're greeted by a photo of Mom and Pop, next to binder full of valuable information for your stay. The owners are very responsive and kind. The private beach is it's own little oasis and the water is shallow and perfect for kids or dogs. The views from the screened in porch are breathtaking. We will be back!!

Summary: The cottage is charming, clean and well stocked. There is a small sandy beach, which is nice. Great area for boating. The host was easy to work with and responsive. And the views are stunning. Had a great trip.

Summary: We loved the house. I was a bit mislead about 20 acres to walk around when there was a family living next door. Each day someone showed up to go into the garage. The gentleman from next door came with his small children and his two dogs on two occasions. I had my older dog with us and she wasn’t crazy about the younger energetic dogs who roamed the property. It would have been good to have known about the neighborly pups before we were surprized by then standing at the porch door barking at my dog

Summary: We stayed at Mom and Pop’s cottage for 3 weeks this past August and it was wonderful! Our hosts were very hospitable and we had everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. The house and surrounding area is great for kids (our 3 year old LOVED the private beach). We highly recommend choosing the cottage if you’re looking for a remote escape with a beautiful view - and you must try the crabs!

Summary: This property is a nice little no frills cottage. Owners were very quick to respond. For us, with kids that love to swim, we were most disappointed by the jellyfish. Both my kiddos were stung in the first few minutes in the water and therefore were scared to swim the remainder of the trip. We realize this is not the owners fault, but we wish we would have known before booking. Otherwise, cute small cottage with great screened in porches and a great view of the water.

Summary: Secluded location in a serene setting with a great river view. Our dog loved the yard and making friends with Dougie. Dated kitchen, only one bath with cramped shower but sufficiently accommodating. Mattresses on double beds too soft for our comfort. Found "hard zones" for individual sleeping our second night.
