Lower level studio w/kitchenette in 1927 home w/ ideal location. Booking includes 1 visit in family-owned salt spa in next block. 2 min walk from food, shops, & bus stop. Roomy enough for a small family, private enough for couples & business travelers & dog-friendly (fully refundable deposit req'd for dogs, no cats). Unofficial off-leash dog park nearby. Low Ceiling! (height is 6'4"). Modest Kitchenette has small fridge, microwave, skillet & coffee pot.
Curtained sleeping area has queen bed.
The space
We’re glad you’re interested in our studio! Please note that we've included your occupancy taxes in the quoted price. This unique space with a locking sliding "barn-style" door offers a large living area, a curtained-off sleeping area, and a small kitchenette. The bathroom and laundry are both outside the locked apartment door (but on the same level). Both may be used by the family from time-to-time. When we have friends over (typically a Friday or Saturday night), we'll want that bathroom to be tidy since it is possible our friends will use that restroom.
*we also share the back entrance (we take a left into our home, you go down and to the right for your apartment). We are usually up and letting the dogs out that back door between 6 am and 8 am and let the dogs out before we go to bed (generally between 9 pm and 11 pm). The apartment is not sound-proof, so if you are a light sleeper, our apartment may not be a perfect arrangement for you.
*If you leave the door unlocked when you're gone, we'll assume that you don't mind us entering (to drop off some pillows or put away linens we've laundered, etc.), If the door is locked while you're away, we only enter in an emergency (i.e. electrical malfunction, flooding, etc.)
*Since this is a non-smoking unit, we request if anyone does smoke, they do so at least 50 feet from the house, and discard butts offsite or in an odor-free container/package in the green garbage can outback.
*Doors secure from inside as well for additional privacy or for use when you're sleeping. These latches prevent someone from entering even with a key (like a hotel latch)
*Since it is a sliding barn door entrance, please note that there is a sliver of a view of the room where the sliding door rolls over the top of the other door (similar to a bathroom stall). So IF someone were to stand right up against the door, they could see a small sliver of the living area (but not the sleeping area which also has a privacy curtain).
*Parking is limited to & free on the street.
*There is no kitchen, but the kitchenette has a compact fridge (probably 3 or 4 cu. ft. with no freezer), a microwave, a 3-in-1 coffeemaker, toaster oven and hot plate, and a hot/cold water dispenser. There is no running water there...just the sink in the bathroom...more than enough if you tend to eat out and just want to warm food or make a breakfast from time to time, but if you like to cook for real, the small space and lack of amenities would be frustrating.
*There is a fully refundable deposit of $150 for one dog plus an additional $50 per additional dog. Let us know if you'll be bringing a furry friend so we can make arrangements for that.
*Please ask for your salt spa gift card if you would like to take advantage of your free salt spa visit. The card has a $39 value, so it more than covers your cleaning fee!
Don’t get too excited when you see the hot tub. It has been converted to a modified keyhole garden (but we may have some extra veggies if you get hungry!) We also have a condo in Hilton Head on Vrbo. Once you book, you’ll be issued a code for the rear door that you can use for the duration of your stay. We ask that the exterior door stay locked at all times (you can always re-enter with your code). The key for your studio will be in the lock which you can use as you desire.
Guest access
Electronic lock on back door of house gives entrance to shared space. Private lock on door of bedroom/sittingroom/kitchenette area.
Interaction with guests
We own businesses and often work out of our home, so at times we are available for guests. Sometimes we may have time to socialize, most of the time we'll be busy. Always open to letting dogs run together in the yard if guests are amenable.
Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE: Though this is a lower level, it is a dry basement unless Columbus floods. When we receive flood-warning level downpours, we may get some dampness or water. For this reason, if our guests are out during a downpour, we reserve the right to enter the locked area without notice to ensure there is no issue or to dry up water and start up a humidifier if there is a leak.
