Negative: Little hard to find - but we got there.

Positive: The hotel location is wonderful, in the woods, secluded, and close to nature. It has a few onsens, we tried 2 of them, and it was an excellent experience, especially the indoor/outdoor one. The staff is extremely friendly. They have English-speaking staff, so communication was no problem. WE came late, drove at night, and the signs to the onsen saved us since Google Maps goofed. The room was spacious and comfortable. We did enjoy it.

Negative: A little more heating in the dressing room at the outside onsen would be beneficial. Using a fan to distribute the heat is not the most efficient way since the airflow cools the hot air coming from the A/C. It was a cold day, close to freezing, and the three minutes between the dressing room and when the hot water started flowing in the showers (before entering the water) were a real courage test. However, after dipping in the water of the onsen, it was awesome.

Positive: Wow. We had the most amazing stay. The location, staff and food were exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. Our room with private onsen was quiet with beautiful views of the forest and river. The dinner and breakfast were stunning with so many new things to try and my goodness, we did not go hungry. If you want somewhere to completely relax, this is the place. Thank you to everyone at SansoTensui for making our stay so special.

Positive: They didn’t just adjust meals to my dietary needs. They encouraged me to tell them what I enjoy eating so the meals could be perfect for me. I really really appreciated this gesture as everywhere else in Japan seems to resent anyone who can’t eat everything. The rooms are spacious and the private bath in room type B is huge! We also stayed another night in Kaori room and the bath here was something else. The reservable private baths are super magical and clean. Never had any issue booking those. You can choose to have breakfast at 11 which is great if you want to sleep in or enjoy the baths instead of wasting precious time eating. It’s a luxurious stay from start to finish. I will never forget this stay. My husband and I have vowed to come back for our ten year anniversary, just to stay here. Book this place. Don’t hesitate. The bad reviews are super old and we didn’t encounter any of the issues
