This unique 35 acre property on the Animas River sits off the road for privacy, yet is super convenient to town and activities. Our neighbors are organic farmers and your cozy 1,000+sf loft apt with outdoor deck sets on top of a beautiful horse barn with 3 sweet equine residents. It is truly an outdoorsman paradise! Walk to the river to fish, swim or kayak or just enjoy the beautiful views with the elk, deer, hawks, owls and other wildlife. Hit the nearby trails on horseback, on foot or on mountain or road bikes. You will be just minutes to golf, the Durango Hot Springs, downtown Durango, and Purgatory Ski Resort. Owners are available via text to make your stay the best, and a caregiver lives nearby.
This bright living space sets above a beautiful horse barn and garage and sleeps 4 comfortably. Use a self check-in key pad and walk upstairs to enter your own private hayloft apt. Your apt is open concept with a full kitchen (gas stove
& oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, 3 types of coffee makers, plus a starter supply of coffee pods, tea and Swiss Miss), dining area, a private outdoor deck with seating, a comfortable living room with Smart 40" Roku TV, puzzles, wifi, a Serta Perfect Sleeper queen sized bed, and laundry area with stackable washer dryer and laundry essentials. A full bath with tub and shower (stocked with towels, soaps, shampoo, and essentials) connects the open loft to a private bedroom with 2 twin beds, great for kids but sturdy enough for adults. The Smart TV has many apps for guests to sign in under their subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu, and more.
Although the garage is locked and not included in the rental, guests are welcome to use the horse barn for parking or gear storage - just respect our boarding horses. Guests may also enjoy the patio table on the lower patio. Rent kayaks or bring your fishing poles and enjoy the Animas River on the property. In the winter, XC ski or snowshoe along the river. You can just relax, eat in and roam the land, use the firepit in the cool weather (if no fire bans are in place) or take advantage of all the area has to offer.
In snowy months, AWD vehicles are recommended for our driveway and private street, but not usually required, as street and driveway are flat and kept plowed.
Like most Durango homes, this one has no central A/C, but has a powerful attic fan and 2 ceiling fans and a portable fan to move air during the summer evenings. It's best to open windows after sundown to let cool air in and close all windows and blinds first thing in the morning.
If owners are in town, they will be in their own apt and give you all of the privacy you need.
Horse owners please inquire about horse boarding and amenities.

Summary: This is a perfect place away from town in country. You can hear rain on a tin roof and sleep like a baby! Plus you have 2 running waters on both sides of you which made our sleeping exceptional! You do have horses below you which is an awesome experience if you are not used to country living. The Animas River is very close. Durango is very close for family fun things and Silverton is about 45 minutes away too. I highly recommend this for anyone that loves the country ❤️

Summary: This was our first VRBO booking. A+ From making the reservation to communicating with the owners, she was wonderful! My little family of 4 had the best time at this property. It was a cute and cozy loft that fit us well, it was well furnished and had everything we needed for a week away from home. The property was well maintained and within walking distance to the Animas River. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony every morning and a drink out back in the evenings. We also loved visiting with the horses on the property, it added to the mountain experience. We enjoyed our stay so much we are already talking about coming back.

Summary: My family loved this location. The scenery is beautiful and the creek is great to sit by. My kids love horses, so being able to pet the horses was a nice touch. Would definitely stay here again

Summary: Great location, stunning property! The Animas River runs right along the property, and the horses make you feel like you’ve stepped into a Hallmark movie. Crisp, sunny mornings and warm days were perfect for hiking. This was an ideal house for the two of us to retreat and relax. Enjoyed coffee by the river with the two Adirondack chairs placed there. Two more up by the house barn. Also a comfy patio with cushioned chairs. We enjoyed reading one of the books they had in stock and the kitchen had all the basics you need. Even a French press! Could have used a measuring cup. It’s real close location to Hermosa Grill and James Ranch for great food. The Dalton Ranch Golf Club restaurant allows some walk-ins but takes reservations (fantastic view and the food was superb). Also, eat at Primi in Durango—we went there twice! The horse owners came by to tend to the horses, adding to the experience. We even got to pet and feed the horses a couple of snacks. Stayed 4 nights. The queen bed was comfy, though the down pillows weren’t the most ideal for us personally, but we managed well enough. The nearby hot springs resort and spa is a must-visit. We enjoyed some great hikes just 30 minutes away, with others more close by. Hope to return again sooner than later.

Summary: The apartment is perfect for a family of 4, very clean and quiet. Really well placed between Durango and Purgatory, we came in for the Spring break and we went skiing every day. We loved the nature around and to say hallo every day to the horses .

Summary: Wonderful! Beautiful! The location is superb. The hosts, Carol & Dave are warm, welcoming, and shared so much about their home and the area. This spot is an oasis as well as being a great jumping off spot for Durango and the area. The views from the apartment are stunning. The kitchen is well stocked. I hope we can come back for a longer visit.

Summary: Perfect family vacation in this private location. The setting is beautiful with the river just a short walk away, very clean and spacious inside the apartment. Our kids had so much fun swimming in the river while my husband enjoyed fly fishing. Also loved that within ten minutes we could be in town and close by all the amenities. Couldn’t have have asked for a better weekend, only wish we could have stayed longer.
