Summary: Unique stay in a converted elementary school. Quiet, easy to access. Big shared kitchen/hang out area. Shared bathrooms but didn't ever run into anybody. Would stay here again if in the area!

Summary: The kids loved the novelty of staying in a school. The playground and gym were well received. My husband did not like the communal aspect of the bathroom situation, but it did not bother the rest of us. Because it is an old school, there are some quirks that we needed to work around. For example, the door to the room has a huge window that the owners covered with window cling. This did not provide a comfortable level of privacy for us, so we tacked one of the maps in the room over the window. That helped a lot. The hall lights are on at night, so covering that window was necessary for us to have enough darkness for a good night sleep. The furniture in the room is not entirely comfortable, but there are couches in the common room to hang out on. When staying in the area, drive north about 10 minutes to Paradise Cafe, a decent, affordable greasy spoon (only open until 2 pm). Overall, this is a great option in the area for an affordable and clean stay. Well worth the money and it is helping out a plucky little town.

Summary: I never liked school until now! I highly recommend staying at the Middle River Schoolhouse B&B. We stayed in room 3. It was spacious and peaceful with very comfortable beds. Sandra is a wonderful host, and even called us on our checkout day to ask how our stay was. We utilized the school gym to shoot hoops, play ball hockey, and even pulled out the mats to practice cartwheels and handstands :) The boys and girls bathrooms were right across the hall from our room, along with a private shower for guests to use. Linens are provided. The fully equipped kitchen has a sitting area to watch tv and toys for kids to play with. There is also a washer and drier on site. The school playground has all new equipment with rubber mulch, and there is a nice walking path that goes around town. There was a citywide rummage sale in the school and around town while we were there, and we found some nice deals. The Old Creamery gift shop and Young's General Store are must visit places as well! If you like homemade donuts, make a short trip north to the Paradise convenience store in Strathcona. Kudos to the people of Middle River to preserve and repurpose their school! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!
