This 2009 built retreat features a 3000’ elevation, great mountain views, river access, a secluded location, and a huge screened porch.
The location of The Cottage is less than 10 minutes from Downtown West Jefferson where many festivals are held and many artisans keep shop. The town offers a few restaurants, bars, art galleries, an ice cream parlor, and a coffee shop. This is the only place in NC where cheese is made, and you can watch at the Ashe County Cheese factory downtown. Boone is a 25 minute drive, Appalachian Ski Resort is 45 minutes away, Beech and Sugar are about an hour drive.
Entertainment is provided by ROKU internet TV including programming by Netflix and Amazon Prime. Living has a 36” TV with ROKU. Full bedroom has a 13” TV with ROKU.
The kitchen includes a full compliment of cookware, silverware, and small appliances. Coffee by Keurig, bring your favorite K-cups. A small gas grill with complimentary fuel is provided. A full sized washer/dryer unit is down the hall when you need to wash a load of clothes.
Internet data flows via dual band WiFi at broadband speeds. You may connect your phone, tablet, laptop, etc. to the wireless network with ease. Download speeds average 15 Mbps. Please be advised there is no landline phone at the cottage, so you may want to verify your cell phone is set up for Wifi calling before arrival. Most cell service by any carrier is spotty at best in the mountains in general.
Guests enjoy river access via a private riverfront property that is yours exclusively during your stay. An elevated wood deck overlooks the South Fork of The New River. The River Access Lot is walking distance from The Cottage along a trail. A gravel road exists if you prefer driving, or if you are hauling boats in or out of the river.
Numerous walking trails are available to hike. There are over 5 miles of old logging roads and gravel roads to explore. Please be advised, the road to the cottage is a gravel one with a hairpin turn into the driveway. If you drive a large vehicle, you will have to make more than one attempt at the hairpin turn or park beside the driveway on the gravel road. You may have to back all the way out if you do not feel comfortable turning around.

Summary: This cabin was exactly as listed. It was extremely clean, which is a must for me. I absolutely loved the screened in porch. It was also clean which was great.. The only negative that we had was the limited space to park. There was plenty of room to park but actually turning into the space was impossible in an F250. We had to back into the space and then back up the entire distance to the main road. There was nowhere to turn around. Other than that, everything was great and we would definitely stay here again.

Summary: This cabin was lovely and comfortable. The master bed was very comfortable. The view was great. We saw deer on multiple days and a fox. The water pressure in the shower was strong. The screen porch was a big plus!

Summary: Wonderful weekend getaway for my wife and I. This little cottage was the perfect size and location, very peaceful as well. Loved the large screened in deck and mountain view. we saw deer at the cottage every day during our stay. The local area has so much to offer it was hard to decide what to do next. Only two issues during the stay, if you have a large vehicle, it will be a bit difficult to get turned into the driveway at the cabin (we have a Subaru), also we did not get to enjoy the river access because we were not sure where to park. If we parked in front of the access, we would have blocked the road. The very small parking areas close to the access appear to belong to the neighbors. However, we would still use the vacation getaway again if coming to the area.

Summary: My husband and I stayed here for a childfree weekend and what a relaxing experience it was! Convenient location not far from West Jefferson. The river front access was also a fun addition. Host was great to communicate with, and made sure we had everything we needed. We plan to come back but bring the kids!

Summary: We had a wonderful stay here. The bedroom setup - a king in the master and bunk beds in the second room- was perfect for our family with two little ones (and the king bed was very comfortable)! The screened in porch was lovely to use and the house had a perfect amount of amenities. Jennifer was extremely responsive and welcoming. Thank you!

Summary: After staying in the property seven years ago, I was very pleased that the inside looked just like it did when we left in 2017. It was very clean and showed no signs of wear or needing replacement. We again loved the screened porch and it is where we spent most of our stay. Last visit, it was definitely considered secluded and quiet. However, not the same this time. There is another property about 400 feet away that uses the same driveway. There were times when we could clearly hear their conversations while on the porch. Also, on a few days there was some kind of noise coming from the roadway above with trucks, machinery, and loud voices. I’m not sure if these had an impact on not seeing any wildlife like previous guests have mentioned. It is still a lovely place to stay in the mountains with its view of Mount Jefferson and the close proximity to West Jefferson/Hwy 221.
