Shadowland River Lodge is located approx. 12 miles South East of downtown Traverse City. It is nestled on 33 acres of private land with 650 feet of frontage along the Boardman River. The original log home structure was built in 1929 and in later years added on to including a kitchen, dining area, full bathroom, walk-in closet, utility room, and a riverside main bedroom.
Shadowland River Lodge currently sleeps up to 6 guests with a queen bed in the one “ conventional “ bedroom with direct river views. (red bedspread) A set of “twin” size bunk beds are in the main room (red checkered) of the cabin structure along with a “double” size futon. (Cream w/ multi-color stripes)
The property has become a retreat for those looking to be a little off the beaten path of the busy hustle and bustle of Traverse City. Step back in time and enjoy the privacy and sense of nature that envelops this log home along the Boardman River. Also enjoy endless amounts of free firewood for use inside and out!
We are dog friendly - this means all dogs! (Sorry, we only allow dogs, no cats, etc.) There is no size limit. We love to have guests experience Shadowland River Lodge with their K9 family members! We see no need to charge a pet fee, so there isn’t one!

Summary: Shadowland River Lodge is a hidden gem. The cabin was so charming and cozy. Jason the host was so informative about the cabin and made our time there more enjoyable knowing a little bit about it's history. It exceeded our expectations!

Summary: This was our third time at Shadowland. It was another incredible vacation that went all too quickly. Jason the host was perfect and we loved our stay. The kitchen is a great delight...everything we could want to cook up a tasty meal. The grounds are so beautiful and spending time by the river with our new adopted dog was so special. The hosts were responsive and made us feel like welcome from the very start.

Summary: Our families met up with two kids and two dogs to check out Sleeping Dunes National Lakeshore and the area, we found this to be cozy, cute and comfortable; perfect for what we needed. It was clean, comfortable furniture and beds and has everything you need to cook at home. Well stocked with indoor and outdoor games. The hosts were wonderful. We loved the hot tub, the giant fireplace and the river view! This is a gorgeous private forest getaway and we all would highly recommend it. We will be back!

Summary: This was an absolutely amazing stay. Check-in was easy, Jason met us at the house, which was a nice and unique touch. The house is in a beautiful setting, very clean and Jason had everything ready for us. He truly made it feel as if it was our home for the weekend. It was a Mother’s Day getaway and we just lounge around the fire pit listening to the sounds of the babbling river and the crackling fire. We went out to eat a couple times in Traverse City and other than that just relaxed. The hot tub was amazing. My wife enjoyed reading one of the books that was left in the living room about the history of Boardman River.This was an excellent day and we will definitely be back. We loved every minute of it.

Summary: Once we explored the cabin and property, everyone agreed that this place was the best placed we ever stayed. Starting with meeting the hosts (Jason and Nicole) for a quick rundown of the property, btw the nicest hosts and very responsive if you have any questions, they showed us around and even set up the fire pit and fireplace all we had to do was light it up and enjoy. Not to outshine the hosts but the property is the real star. From the views, the fire pit/place, the river, the cozy feel and decorations everything is fantastic. This place has everything from interesting books, board games, blue tooth speaker, a hot tub!!!Jason and Nicole make the check out process incredible easy and stress free. I know this place will be talked about between us for a long time and we all agreed that we will be coming back to the property.

Summary: Our family had an incredible stay at this rustic yet beautiful log cabin near Traverse City. The cabin has a charming, rustic ambiance that immediately made us feel at home, but it also boasts a newly remodeled and well-appointed kitchen, which made preparing family meals a breeze.One of the highlights was the huge fireplace—it became the centerpiece of our evenings as we sat around it drinking hot chocolate. There was plenty of supplied firewood, so we never had to worry about keeping the fire going. The property itself is lovely for walking, and we were thrilled to find hiking trails nearby to explore the great outdoors.The cabin’s location is ideal, close to major attractions, but it still felt secluded and peaceful. For dining out, we highly recommend a visit to Yankee Boy Restaurant—it's a must!The hosts were absolutely wonderful—attentive but offering just the right amount of space. Communication was easy, and we felt they genuinely cared about our experience, which made our stay even more enjoyable.Our entire family left feeling recharged and refreshed. This retreat was the perfect escape and will remain a treasured memory for years to come. We can’t wait to return!
