Positive: Wonderful host and beautiful home. Walked to the bridge at sunrise and the steam coming off the river as the sun was rising was magical. Be ready to cross a very narrow bridge with no railings as you drive in 😉

Positive: Kenji is a wonderful host. We enjoyed our stay a lot. He ensured, we had everything we needed during our time at the hideaway. He welcomed us outside the house, staffed us with all necessary information and the house is very clean. And if you need any support, Kenji makes sure, you get it. Especially the little details and thoughtful interior will make you have an authentic experience. We recognised, that the hideaway is also used as a one-night-stop during roadtrips, but we definitely recommend staying a few nights to "hideaway" and calm down during your trip.

Positive: Kenji was a great host. Helped us plan activities around shimanto and get reservations for dinner — and his recommendations were excellent. (Ask him about kayaking and the riverside sauna!) The house was very charming and the location beautiful. Would recommend at least 2 nights.

Positive: It’s modern Japanese style. Light and airy and spacious. It was close to the Forge where we had a workshop. Beautiful country setting.

Negative: We didn’t stay long enough. Scary drive at night across the submersible bridge( fine by day and with repetition)

Positive: The riverside hideaway is exactly what I wanted and the place I was most looking forward to staying and it didn't disappoint. Beautifully renovated old Japanese house in the middle of nowhere by the river with spectacular night sky. The facilities were very clean and the beds were very comfortable. I loved the well kept garden. It is a wonderful place if you want to experience the inaka and Kenji is a great host.

Negative: I had to keep coming to my wife's aid to eject large spiders from the house. Maybe investing in some kind of spider catcher would be a good idea? Beware the bridge getting there is quite hair raisingly narrow if you're driving. It is literally in the middle of nowhere with no near vending machines and a fair drive to the town (which also has little convenience stores at night)

Our host, Kenji, was incredibly helpful and kind, he not only shared great suggestions for local restaurants but even offered to call ahead and make a reservation for us. The entire stay was peaceful and relaxing, and if it had been possible, I would have gladly booked a few more nights just to enjoy the stunning views and quiet atmosphere.
