Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: The cabins and shelters and hotsprings are rustic and relaxing. The view from the lodge across the river is idyllic. The host picked us up from Shintuya and made us breakfast and lunch for a small cost.
Negative: No complaints about the lodge. If you're accustomed to resort-type accommodations, look elsewhere. The mosquitos can be bothersome if you give them a chance. The mosquito nets over the beds work well.
Summary: Relaxing escape into the Amazon

Positive: The closest you can really get to Manu National Park without being on a tour Access to a huge amount of primary jungle so was perfect for taking lots of photos of creatures A hot spring is available 24/7 You can fish for free on the Madre De Dios river Meals are available, made using ingredients from the property. The cooking is very good and very reasonably priced The owner & host, Johan, is very friendly and relaxed, and is very organised and on top of things
Negative: These are not negatives as such, but things you have to take into account (sept 2023) Getting there is quite hard, but travelling the Manu Road is rewarding in itself - and can be done by shared taxi van from CONTROL SAN JERONIMO in Cusco to SALVACIÓN (contact driver 924911164) then from there it’s a bit of a gamble on to SHINTUYA from where it’s a short motor canoe down river There is currently no internet. Come prepared You can charge phones etc 24/7 but there was no electricity in the cabins - not sure if this is temporary It’s used by local tour guides who sometimes stay with clients overnight. You meet interesting people but can be noisy with VERY early starts
Summary: Get as close to primary jungle as you can on a budget. Must come fully prepared. Excellent for photography and connectin

Positive: What a beautiful location and thoughtful hosts. I was introduced to the local culture, jungle animals and medicinal plants. There were excursions to go on and I did go on a few which were always engaging.
Negative: Jhohan & family to still developing their property to be in tune with nature and showcase local culture and jungle.
Summary: I had an absolutely wonderful week relaxing in the hot springs and exploring nature.
