Positive: Very friendly welcome. We took dinner and breakfast, good original japanese food. Host organized also tea ceremony, very special. But it needed other guests to translate, but it worked. Really enjoyed the stay and especially the private time im the bath during the evening 9:15-10pm. That was great.
Negative: The interior was mixed, more like a private room, not a hotel room. Toilet in another room, for all rooms. Shower only in the bathroom in the cellar, with the ‚onsen‘ (hot pool, normal water) . But was well organised and no problem.
Summary: Nice stay in original japanese environment. Enjoyed it, but do not expect hotel room. Its special

Positive: Very warm and friendly host with good English. The breakfast and dinner was incredible. There is a private bath! Futon was comfortable, room was spacious. Location is great, view upon Nara magnificent. Awesome Ryokan!
Negative: Beware there are a couple of stairs to climb to access the property from the station. If you have big suitcase you need a good physical condition or to get help from the host.
Summary: Best Ryokan on a mountain (perfect for the weekend)

Positive: Our host was very hospitable and helpful. The hotel location in a small village up a mountain wasn't the most accessible but was definitely worth the trip. The temple, minutes away on top of lots of stairs was one of our favorite visits in Japan. Breakfast was good and we admired the beautiful view on the valley. The room was spacious and we actually enjoyed two separate but connected rooms rather than a family room.
Negative: Location: To get there from Osaka, you need to take taxi+train or cable car+train. I recommend taxi to the train station as to get to the hotel from the cable station you have to climb lots of steps. We don't regret staying there again but it's important to realize that this hotel is not very close to Osaka. Room: our room was in the basement of the house. Quite a few stairs. It was somewhat humid and a bit outdated. There was an insect in the bathroom... We had to make the beds ourselves. Everything was fine, but overall it seemed pricey compared to the Ryokan we stayed at in Kyoto.
Summary: Hospitable host and away from the beaten path location, we enjoyed our stay!

Positive: The location of this Ryokan was lovely, half way up the mountain with views over Nara and Kyoto. It is an easy walking distance to the fabulous Hozan-ji Temple - the most beautiful temple we saw in Japan. It was close enough that we could go back at night and see it all lit up with lanterns - magical. We also walked to the top to check out the amusement park, it was closing but looked fun. The owner of the Ryokan was very sweet and made a real effort to communicate in English with us.
Negative: The room was a little tired and I battled to make up the futons (the sheets didn't seem to fit at all ). Quite a lot of admin at the end of the day which I could have done without. We had to book a bath time even though there were no other guests, this was quite confusing to say the least. I'm not even sure now if we used the right bathroom. We mainly booked this as an experience, but after staying in many other hotels in Japan, we are unlikely to repeat it. I am reluctant to be mean about this place but also need to be honest as, with breakfast and dinner included, it was pretty expensive.
Summary: Great location

Positive: The manager was exceptionally helpful and nice. She helped us to make our stay so enjoyable. It was also close to a beautiful temple.
Negative: The toilet was outside but that’s nothing to do with them. It is what it is in a ryokan like that
Summary: If anyone is seeking for a truely authentic Japanese experience, away from tourists, this is a place to stay. 😊
