Thank you everyone for booking Shrimp in 2019. We're really happy everyone enjoyed our little cottage and gave such wonderful feedback. We are now closed until Easter 2020 but you can still book for next year.
Welcome to 'Shrimp Cottage' - Shrimp is a quirky and quaint one-bedroom cottage built in 1750 filled with traditional and modern features to help you relax and unwind.
The property:
Living room: two comfortable snuggler sofas, an efficient wood burner (free wood), underfloor heating to keep you lovely and warm and a Samsung SMART TV with all channels, i-players and Netflix. We also have super fast fibre broadband (50GB).
Kitchen: small but fully equipped with a Baby Belling oven which is perfect for making that romantic meal for two, a small fridge freezer, microwave, a washer-dryer and a compact dishwasher.
Bedroom: enjoy your morning tea with a beautiful view of the harbour and estuary.
Bathroom: gorgeous fixtures with a free-standing bath where you can enjoy a good soak after your day at the beach.
Warning: our cottage is traditionally small, with low ceilings and uneven narrow stairs but this is what makes it wonderfully homely and cosy.
The area.
Cockwood is a picturesque village with a number of local amenities. There are two excellent pubs / restaurants (The Ship Inn & The Anchor), which both serve great food and beer and have amazing views
The area has lots of walks on the doorstep: you can walk to Powderham Castle in thirty minutes and Dawlish Warren Blue Flag Beach and bird conservation area in twenty minutes. You can take the local ferry across the river to Exmouth which has amazing beaches, and we are also on the Exe Estuary Trail (21 miles of traffic free cycle / walk paths). You can walk or hire bikes (Exe Trail Cycle Hire - Dawlish Warren) and do the whole route or just part of it and then get the train or ferry back. Starcross Train Station is a ten-minute walk from our house and has direct links to Exeter, Plymouth or Torbay.
In fact, you don't need a car to stay here as the public transport is amazing.

Summary: Everything you need in this beautiful little cottage for 2. Good information provided by host for surrounding areas to explore. Everything tastefully done very clean and fantastic use of small space. As host says you can use all forms of public transport to explore the area which we did - bus train boat and walks! Two good pubs nearby but get busy do suggest you book. We had a lovely break.

Summary: We absolutely loved this cute and quaint little cottage which was in a perfect location for touring about the local area and Devon & Cornwall. The cottage literally has everything that you need for a week away and is extremely comfortable . The two local pubs serve amazing food and drinks. The local train service is efficient and on the doorstep. We have just had the best time and if we do get down this way again we will definitely stay at shrimp cottage.

Summary: We were extremely comfortable in this small but more than adequate cottage. The standard of finish is high, stylish and impeccably clean. Everything has been carefully thought about from cleaning products, utensils and comfort. It’s the best overall cottage we’ve stayed in. Thanks for having us

Summary: Myself and my husband stayed in Shrimp Cottage for a week. Chris and Marianne have furnished it beautifully and provided everything you could need during your stay, including hand sanitizer and face masks (a necessity in these strange times). They even made space in their shed for our bikes. The cottage is compact and using the bath/shower without getting water on the floor was a challenge but a small discomfort for such a beautiful place to stay. The beach at Dawlish Warren was in easy reach by bike and so we hardly used the car. We also enjoyed some lovely walks across the countryside. The local pubs were both friendly and served delicious food. I would definitely recommend the cottage to couples looking for a beautiful, relaxing place to stay. Thank you Chris and Marianne.

Summary: Christopher has obviously had great fun in putting this tiny cottage together with great attention to detail and not inconsiderable generosity. we had a great short break here in a really interesting area of the country. By enlarge the cottage was comfortable with some small reservations. The bed we found to be too firm, and consequently didn't sleep too well. The steps between each room, although not a bother for me, were difficult for my wife. Older guests may find that a problem. The only other thing we missed was something that they can do nothing about which was the lack of an adjoining outside space of some sort. That said The Shrimp is top class self- catering experience. Very good pub next door does great food as well.

Summary: We were really impressed with Shrimp Cottage. Although compact it is really well arranged with everything you need. The standard of finish is exceptional and attention to detail is superb. There were thoughtful touches like phone chargers, toiletries and a selection of welcoming groceries. We would thoroughly recommend this property.

Summary: This cottage is everything you would want for a short break in Devon Location is perfect. Easy 10 minute walk to Starcross or 20 minutes walk to Dawlish Warren. We got the ferry to Exmouth and the train back stopping at Limpstone and Topsham. The trains let you get on and off on your route. There is a pub nearby and the food is lovely we ate there two nights. The arrival was easy and the hosts provided all sorts of extras small bottles of wine, cereal, biscuits and fresh flowers. Lovely comfortable bed with great view of the estuary and Exmouth. Cosy living room warm with log burner and underfloor heating , great smart TV Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a Devon stay

Summary: It was very clear that the owners had given a great deal of thought as to what guests might need to enhance their stay; we wanted for nothing. The location was good for us too, walks, cycle ride on the estuary and a visit to Exeter. One question though, how did they manage to get the bath into the bathroom?!

Summary: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shrimp. It's a lovely bijou cottage - perfect for two people. It was very well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. It's in a great location with easy access to coastal walks, train journeys and ferry crossings. The information file provided was very useful as we hadn't visited the area before.
