Positive: Veranda is nice

Negative: Hard to get to. Tried for an hour to get a tuk tuk - no driver would drive the 13min up from central bus station early afternoon. I had to work out local bus. I mesaged the host - unable to help. Felt host was intrusive on personal space. Did a tour. Was OK. Expensive for what it was. When paying at end he added on unexplained additional amount to negotiated cost of tour and a fee for me to use the washing machine by my bedroom which I wasn't expecting.

Summary: Nice setting, but bathroom not clean, not so easy to get to & unknown 'additional fees' at check out

Positive: This is not a regular hostel. I've been travelling 3 months in Asia now and been around many. Here, you enter a family and a community who take care of you. I litterally had the incredible opportunity to learn to cook currys with his generous and kind family and to share the meal afterwards with the members. The food was the most authentic and delicious of my whole stay in Sri Lanka. I will forever cherrish that memory. We had the opportunity also to go to the waterfall next door and hang out with locals who shared their beers, learning about all the variety of flora along the way and finishing the day being offered tea by the owner's family great hospitality. He can also arrange cheaper transport to the rainforest (also cheapest closest location to go there). The owner, Danu, a wonderful man with good values, simple philosophy and noble personnality, is generous, kind, funny and won't hesitate to share a beer with you, always looking to improve his english (one of the only ones in this modest village to speak it good). The appartement has 2 rooms and a functionning kitchen, just ask the family for whatever equipement you are missing and they will give what they have. There is a washing machine for your clothes and a line outside to dry (was finally able to wash my backpack!!) and peackocks, deers and birds outside as you eat your freshly cooked breakfast. Location is secluded but Danu makes that to be not a problem, as he drives you to the village where he can translate for you and bring you to the best places. This experience was beyond my expectations and I highly recommand the place that is truly a hidden gem. Thank you to all of you family and you Danu.
