1 Bedroom Cottage in Newberry

The Loon cabin is bright and airy, yet very cozy. It will sleep 2 persons on a queen sofa sleeper with full depth mattress. The kitchen has a gas range and refrigerator; Includes coffee pot, kitchen utensils, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, gas grill, and propane heat to keep the cabin snug. There is a bathroom with vanity and shower but no indoor toilet. It does have a new, clean, privy outside the door.
Picture yourself sitting in your living area in front of a wall of windows just feet from the lake’s edge. Open the windows to the call of, (you guessed it!), our resident loons in summer. If you’re lucky you might be able to observe them raising a young one. This cabin is ideal for a romantic getaway, or an artist’s working retreat.
Culhane Lake Resort is an off the grid hamlet of four rental cabins that have been recently renovated to offer modern comforts. Because of its remoteness there is no TV or WiFi. There is now limited cell service in our area for calls and texting. Culhane Lake Resort is pet friendly. Please review our pet policy listed below.
Please note that this cabin is powered by solar power so please no electric cooking devices or fans other than those provided. CPAPS are allowed so please feel free to bring you if needed.
Bed linens, bath towels, and kitchen towels are included.
This cabin rents from May 1st to October 31st and requires a four night minimum rental.
By booking this reservation guests acknowledge that they have reviewed and agree to the terms of our Vacation Rental Agreement. This is a non-smoking cabin.
Guests are charged a minimal cleaning fee to cover costs of cleaning and sanitation but are still responsible for the following upon departing:
Wash, dry and put away dish ware, utensils, silverware, pots and pans.
Wipe counters, tables and sinks.
Use bags provided and place trash in designated container outside.
Hosts also have a cabin on sight in case you have any questions or concerns.
PETS WE ARE PET FRIENDLY BUT IF YOUR DOG(s) AREN’T 100% FRIENDLY PLEASE DON’T BRING THEM.
Guests are allowed to bring ONE pet and must be approved prior to booking. Cats must be litter trained. Dogs must be friendly with other guests and their pets, including the hosts dogs and must not bother other guests. We do not allow barkers out of courtesy to other guests. PLEASE DO NOT BRING FEMALES IN SEASON. We do not allow pets to be left unattended in cabins while you are away unless your pet is crate trained and does not bark or howl. If you place a reservation and there is a problem with your dog barking and/or not being friendly then you will be asked to leave and no refunds will be issued.
Most of our guests come here for the quiet solitude and to enjoy nature. For that reason, we ask all guests respect other guests by keeping noise to a minimum before 8am and after 10pm. As a courtesy to guests and host we do not allow check in after 11:00pm.
Due to limited space we do not allow atv’s, motorcycles, or off road vehicles at this property.
We do offer guests free use of sit-on-top kayaks and fishing kayaks here on Culhane Lake.

Summary: If you’re looking to unplug and relax with a beautiful view, this is a great spot. The cabin is small, but the view of the lake is really lovely. Our dog loved roaming around the property, and we enjoyed some fantastic hiking, kayaking and relaxing by the lake. The shared campfire area was nice as well. Steve was a great host—he was welcoming and a great resource for information about the area and things to do.

Summary: We stayed in mid-May 2021 for my birthday. We are avid ATV-ers and this resort was perfect for us. At the end of the day, we enjoyed a hot shower and the ability to clean up, relax and sit by the lake. Very nice facility and owner is very helpful and friendly. We will be back during off-season again!

Summary: I thoroughly enjoyed my 3-night off-grid stay in the Loon cabin in early October. The location is unparalleled for its beauty and solitude. There is an unobstructed view of the lake out the rear window. Nights are dark and quiet, and the view of the Milky Way over the lake was fabulous. I very much enjoyed talking with Steve. He has a wealth of knowledge about the local area, and enjoys sharing it. He directed me to the North Country Trail which passes just at the end of the driveway, and gave me enough information for me to be sure I was headed right. There is easy access to Tahquamenon Falls and Crisp Point Lighthouse (albeit on a pretty rough access road, though that's the same for everyone regardless of where they are coming from). The cabin was spotless when I arrived, and well furnished. Be prepared for a percolator coffee maker, which worked great. My only caveat is that the sofa bed was a bit hard for these pushing-70-y-o bones.

Summary: Was exactly what quarantine 2020 vacationing can be; quiet, apart from any crowds, and a reminder that there are so many beautiful things to see. The Loon cabin felt like you were floating in a house boat. Incredible sunrises and clear night skies for star gazing. Steve was great and helped my husband with hiking, fishing advice, and local history lessons. Extremely knowledgeable. Was a joy to have our 2 dogs there able to run the property free. Already miss it!
