This historic 17th century villa is in the medieval town of Coreglia Antelminelli, set in the hills of the Appenines in the beautiful Garfagnana region of Tuscany.
The beautifully decorated garden apartment has a living room, a fully equipped kitchen and two en-suite bedrooms.
The large traditional Italian garden and terrace has a lovely private swimming pool, which is exclusive to the apartment. The garden is beautifully kept by the owner and it features a Limonia, outdoor kitchen and fabulous views.
The apartment is on the ground floor. It is very tastefully decorated with Italian antique furniture. The garden can be reached directly from the kitchen as well as from the master bedroom via French doors.
The kitchen/dining room is decorated with marble from the same mountains as Michaelagelo's David. There is a traditional stone sink, marble worktops, marble table, oven, a 4 ring gas hob as well as a fridge and pantry.

The private pool is right in front of the garden apartment, and is surrounded by elegant garden furniture and beautiful potted plants. The pool is 9x4m and 1.2-1.4 metres deep. It is open from May to October, weather permitting. Extensions are considered.
The views from the garden are fabulous.
There is an outdoor kitchen with pizza oven.
Area
Media Valle, set between Lucca and the Garfagnana, is an exotic, lush green area of Tuscany unaffected by mass tourism. The area is superb for walking and climbing, with the famous and spectacular gorge 'Orito di Bodri' nearby. There are also many ancient villages in the area, many worth exploring. The town of Barga, famous for its art exhibitions, summer opera, jazz and food festivals, is only a few kilometres away. Also nearby is Bagni di Lucca, the 18C spa resort of the Luchessi nobles, with its thermal baths, elegant villas and pretty surroundings.
The villa is situated in the village of Coreglia Antelminelli. There's a well stocked grocery store and a couple of restaurants in the village.
In Piano di Coreglia, at the bottom of the hill, 10 minutes away, there are a couple of restaurants and cafes and shops. The next town Ghivizzano are more restaurants, cafes and shops as well as a supermarket and a train station that links you to Lucca and Pisa.
Fornaci di Barga is only 20 minutes drive away and there are lots of restaurants, shops, cafes and a couple of supermarkets here too.
The villa is very well situated to experience Tuscan village life whilst being well connected to larger towns and cities.

Summary: The owners were subltly helpful and very welcoming. The pool was perfect and cool even when the temperature was 38. The views from everywhere in the garden were simply breathtaking

Summary: We spent two weeks at Villa la Penna. The villa itself is beautiful and the setting awesome. We had sole use of the ground floor and found it clean and well-equipped. Some guests might find the inter-connecting bedrooms difficult to work with but you can leave the end bedroom via French doors and get to the living areas without disturbing anyone in the second bedroom. The owner, Leonardo, is delightful and we communicated via email using Google Translate on anything that we couldn't understand. He was always available but ensured our privacy at all times. The gardens are simply delightful with the most stunning views and are various sitting areas to find sun or shade as required. The pool is small but well-situated for the sun and excellent views. This wouldn't be suitable for very young children - the pool isn't gated and the walls round the garden have a sheer drop. Coreglia Antelminelli is a charming village. Lucca, Bagni de Lucca, Montecatini, Barga, Viareggio, Forte del Marmi, Grotta de Vente and Lago de Vagli are just some of the many places worth visiting and are within reasonable distance and with some of the most beautiful drives. Restaurants are good value and of a good standard. The locals are friendly too!

Summary: We were 5, 2 couples and a single and we stayed 1 week of may 2016. The house is very beautifull and charming, the garten is fantastic, and situated in the most authentic medival village on a hilltop with long view over the next couple of mountains. The small pergola at the edge of the garden is unique. Leonardo, the owner, was very helpfull, starting and ending helping with the luggage in his smart small car from the parling lott outside the village port. As mentioned by others, the arrangement of the two bedrooms are so, that the way to the livingrom and kitchen from the far one goes through the other bedroom or via the garten, small problem, if any, for us. The third bedroom, on the second floor was not heated (heating is apparently in preparation), normally not a big problem, but the weather was rather cold that week. On small thing, that would be pleasant is a better lightning in the kitchen, specially in the sink corner (the sink has no fall towards the drain). A place that we would very much consider returning to an other time.

Summary: Words cannot describe the beauty of this villa and it's surroundings. The view from the north room was spectacular with french doors that opened to reveal an immaculate swimming pool, the mountains in the distance, and the local residents hanging out their laundry and singing to the radio each morning. The villa has the best of modern plumbing and kitchen fixtures (unlike many old buildings in Europe), with the best of the rustic which gives you the feel of living like a prince or princess centuries ago. The pictures on the site do not do it justice. There are a few things to consider if traveling with couples. The first floor of the villa is what you are renting which consists of two bedrooms with bathrooms, two sitting or living rooms and a kitchen. All rooms are connected by a door but you will need to go outside to go from the north bedroom to the kitchen or sitting rooms without disturbing anyone in the middle bedroom. This was not a problem for us but something to consider depending on your travel companions. This villa is situated far north of other Tuscan sights. We took two days and traveled to Venice and a day in Cortona and a day in Florence. If we had it to do over again we would have spent 4 nights at the Villa in order to travel to Cinque Terre and Lucca and then possibly a villa in Florence to take in the sights there and Cortona-Siena. I will say that the most enjoyable day that we spent was the day devoted to Coreglia Antelminelli. The restaurant L'Arcile was wonderful as were both of the bars. When you see bar in Italy, think Starbucks with alcohol.
