Positive: Lovely location and very clean and well kept cottage. Plenty of nice walks in the grounds. Great location for visiting other castles and the coast.
Negative: This cottage doesn't have it's own garden if you want a private place to sit. However once the castle closes you can sit at the picnic benches in the castle grounds and then all to yourself.

Positive: Lovely historic cottage - clean, spacious, well appointed and decorated with some period furniture. It was our favorite of all of our accommodations over our 2 weeks in Scotland. It was quiet and peaceful and the setting was idyllic. We loved the walking paths amongst gorgeous trees with views of the countryside. We also loved that we had views of the castle from our windows.
Summary: A fairytale 3 days.

Positive: Cozy and beautiful cottage on castle grounds with great forest walk behind. Proper kitchen with all the crockery, utensils and cast irons. We cooked everyday and the kitchen had everything we needed.
Negative: Only 2 toilet paper rolls and no trash bags were left for us.

Positive: Lovely location, very peaceful and quiet. Cottage very cosy and well equipped. Guided tour of the castle very interesting.
Negative: We had a lot of trouble with the lock on the front door and were very uneasy about having to leave the door unlocked when we went out or went to bed. Although the inside of the cottage was well presented the immediate outside would have benefitted from some attention.
Summary: Staying in the grounds of this castle was a good experience.

Positive: The location was exceptional. Wonderful views of castle and surrounding countryside. The grounds were a joy which our dog also really enjoyed. A really great base to return to after long days out discovering the Highlands
Negative: The outside area to front door has cobbles (not great if you have mobility issues.) There are three fairly deep steps to the living room, which again, proved tricky. A better seating out area would have been appreciated, particularly during decent weather (which we were fortunate enough to have.) We felt that the cottage, although having a decent bathroom and kitchen, could be so much better without having a complete overhaul.
Summary: The location of Steading Cottage within the delightful grounds of Craigiever Castle is perfect.
