Dolores Cabin | Storm Peak Lodge and Ranch at Wildcat Canyon 45 Private Acres

8 Bedroom Cabin in Dolores

This cabin is the real-deal mountain experience—no frills, just fresh air, towering trees, private 45 acres, and a rich history that started with zero humans (yep, it was just the bears and birds for a while). Once a wild, untamed retreat, it’s now the ultimate getaway for families, reunions, weddings, and just about any excuse to celebrate. With a backstory worthy of a campfire tale, this place doesn’t just host memories—it helps make them legendary.
Welcome to Storm Peak Lodge –This lodge spreads its cozy charm across three spacious floors, each with its own personality—and plenty of room to snooze, sprawl, and sneak off for some peace and quiet. Up on the top floor, you’ll find the crown jewel: the main master suite, complete with a private bathroom, a patio perfect for your morning coffee (or evening wine), and views that might just convince you to move in permanently. Two more bedrooms share a classic Jack and Jill bathroom—perfect for kids, cousins, or anyone who enjoys the thrill of a shared sink. The main floor is the heart of the home, with the kitchen, main living area, and another set of two bedrooms connected by—you guessed it—another Jack and Jill bathroom. It’s ideal for families who love staying close... but not too close. And then there’s the basement: part hangout zone, part bunkhouse, part indoor adventure. It features a pool table for some friendly competition, a second master suite for VIP guests (or very tired parents), and a super-sized room that can sleep seven. Yes, seven. It’s practically its own sleepover kingdom.
The lodge features four comfy bedrooms plus a bunk room in the basement that’s perfect for kids or anyone young at heart. Need even more snooze space? The loft and basement have queen pull-out beds—ideal for extra guests or surprise tagalongs. Curl up in the cozy living room, stream your favorite series with WiFi (yes, even here!), or do a little laundry while pretending you're roughing it.
Sitting on a jaw-dropping 45-acre lot that cozies up to the San Juan National Forest in Wildcat Canyon, this place is adventure-ready year-round. It doubles as the perfect spot to slow down, unwind and breathe in that fresh mountain air that smells faintly of pine and freedom. In summer and fall, it moonlights as a working ranch with mules and horses hanging out just behind the lodge, along with wranglers and guides living their best ranch life. The property is a scenic playground with rolling hills, shady woods, creek and river frontage, and meandering trails that practically beg for boots and bikes.
Looking for something to do? From hunting to hiking, skiing to sledding, fishing to family reunions, this place does it all. Hosting a wedding or big event? You're in luck—we can sleep 30+ in the main lodge alone, and over 50 guests when both lodges are rented. Just drop us a line to chat about our event accommodations and fees—we promise we’re nice.
And let’s not forget: Storm Peak Lodge is proudly off-grid and powered by solar. That means guilt-free hot showers and eco-conscious vibes all around. Being off-grid and tucked away in a secluded corner of the canyon, our lodge offers guests a front-row seat to nature in all her unfiltered glory. You’ll trade city lights for starlit skies, and traffic noise for birdsong, rustling leaves, and the occasional curious critter.
This is the real deal—an unplugged, boots-on-the-ground experience for folks who aren’t afraid of a little dirt, a few hoofprints, or maybe sharing their morning coffee with a mule in the distance. It’s not luxury in the traditional sense—it’s luxury for the soul.
If you’re the kind of person who greets mud with a grin and sees pine needles as confetti from the forest, then welcome. Mother Nature’s been expecting you.
When you're ready to explore, Telluride and Mountain Village are just 30 miles north—perfect for skiing, golfing, shopping, or catching a ride on the free gondola (yes, it’s really free!). Head 20 miles south to Dolores for lake days at McPhee Reservoir, or venture a bit further to Cortez for Mesa Verde, the Four Corners Monument, and some of the best biking this side of the Rockies. Want to make a day of it? Take a scenic drive to Durango (70 miles) for ziplining, museums, and the iconic Narrow Gauge Railroad.
Bottom line: Whether you're here to relax, celebrate, have a legendary game of hide-and-seek in the woods, or go full-on mountain explorer, Storm Peak Lodge is ready to welcome you with open arms, fresh air, and maybe a friendly mule or two.
Any bookings from October - March must have a 4x4 or off road vehicle to access the property. We love love and hosting weddings as well as other private events! Please inquire for additional fees and costs that come with those types of bookings.
**** New building has been added to the front of the property for Outfitter Lease in the fall, it is still under construction and pictures will be updated upon completion. Please inquire for reference images ****

Summary: We came from Texas for a white Christmas, and that is what we got. The tree was beautiful for all of the gifts we brought. We also made Christmas dinner on Christmas day and with what I brought from home and what they had there in the kitchen we made it work. Water pressure was pretty good. With the amount of people we had, we spread our showers out, so everyone had hot water. The beds were comfortable for us. Thats always important for me and my husband with our age. none of our 20yr old to 30yr old kids complained about the beds either. It seemed that all the chests throughout the house had extra pillows and blankets. The property was beautiful, and we went and bought some snow disks for the littles to use and found a couple of hills for them to slide down (a million times). We won't need them in Texas, so we left them for the next guests. Even us big kids did it. We did have an issue keeping the house a constant temp (but that was probably user error). When it got to warm, we just cracked the window or door open a little. There was a weird fly issue, but they didn't bother us. Durango was close enough for us to drive to a couple times and Mountain Village was a beautiful drive about 45 min. We had a couple of issues while we were there, and the host was responsive and generous about the inconvenience. We would stay again with how many we have; it is hard to find a place where everyone gets their own room.

Summary: We absolutely loved our stay here. I had my wedding on June 8, 2024, and it was picture-perfect. During our stay, the new moon allowed us to see the Milky Way just by looking up! The location, nestled between Telluride and Durango, was ideal, offering plenty of opportunities for travel and sightseeing. The family enjoyed the trail on the property. The solar power was unique and added a bit of a challenge to getting ready for the wedding, but we were prepared for that. The WiFi was a bit slow, as expected. Despite a small inconvenience of workers on the nearby house during the wedding evening, the overall ambiance of the location was magical and captivating. We would absolutely stay again! Sara was so wonderful and responsive.

Summary: This property is absolutely perfect for a getaway with your family. We had a wedding on the property and the background scenery was absolutely beautiful! Even though it was late April and we weren’t sure on weather conditions the snow wasn’t a problem at all. It wasn’t too terribly cold and Mark made sure we had plenty of wood for the fireplace. Mark was great about providing any and everything we needed. I would rebook this house in a heart beat.

Summary: Outstanding time in this huge house. Plenty of seats at the table and kitchen bar to feed all of us but and still be in the same room. Plenty of blankets, pillows, sheets and towels for an Army. 45 min drive to Ski Telluride(Mountain Village). Based on the drive during winter you must get 4 wheel drive and studded tires if they have them. Rent Jeeps from DiffJeeps in Montrose or Telluride, great way to go. DO NOT GO IN 2 WHEEL VEHICLES, too much snow, too much ice for the drive. Mark was always quick to communicate and responsive, appreciate it!
