Positive: The whole former resort and grounds are just beautiful. The beach is lovely and not crowded at all, just like the multiple pools. All very clean. The 3 bedroom apt. is great for a family with kids or a group of friends. We fixed many meals there. The 2 restaurants had delicious food. We did one Walmart stop for the week. Security seems very good. We'd HIGHLY recommend La Tarraya seafood restaurant on the beach in Playa--best coconut shrimp ever!! And so reasonable. You can book Happy Shuttle online before your trip, which really helps with getting to Mareazul from the Cancun airport.
Negative: The pool water is cold! (Feb. 2nd-9th, '24), but it's the time of year. The master bed squeaks a lot. The AC units have a frequent buzz sound, but ear plugs helped with that part. No wash cloths provided. It's $20 one way for 1-4 people into Playa del Carmen, however, which is only 10 minutes away by taxi. Didn't try the pool attached to the unit as it was too cold. :(
