Positive: The house is at the end of a cul-de-sac and would have been really peaceful but there is a field of alpacas next door and people with loud children came to visit them often. We enjoyed playing badminton in the garden and eating outside on the patio. The kitchen is well-equipped.
Negative: It’s by no means terrible but for the money we were disappointed. The garden and outside area was a mess. Grass needed cutting, hedges trimming and the area where the washing facilities etc are was filthy and not to the standard of a house rented to guests. No washing detergent, no shampoo or conditioner, a broken curtain rail in one of the bedrooms and the bathroom had a really impractical wet-room shower that covered the whole floor in water. Limited space to put anything, especially in one of the bedrooms that only had a small hanging rail and two bedside-table drawers. Tricky when you are on holiday for a week with two children!
Summary: We have stayed in Shaldon many many times but wouldn’t come back to this house

Positive: Quiet, peacefulness of site. Quality of house fittings and eco innovations in its build. The service company and owner were very attentive to our questions. We enjoyed a couple of soaks in the hot-tub, once we had worked out how to get it going.
Negative: Nothing really that we didn’t like. But here are some minor observations: “Near the beach” I feel is a bit of an exaggeration. Although the owner had obviously cut his own hedge, the lane to the house was very overgrown and touched the car on both sides. Also a description said two bathrooms: it only has one. It has two toilets? Is this an American terminology issue? Minor suggestion points: the in-house hard copy guide needs some updating and an explanation of the “secret”drawers would be useful. A Washing-up bowl would be a useful addition. It would be good at some point to uncover the overgrown brook that borders the property on one side.
Summary: Sunnybrook’s peace and tranquility grows on you while you are there and one is reluctant to leave, when the time comes..

Positive: Such a peaceful location and stunning house! We loved every second of our stay. The house is really beautiful, the garden is perfect and kept so well. Would definitely stay here again if we were in Devon again.

Positive: Excellent secluded spot, visually very appealing property, cosy for a small family, nice geographical area. The owner was very responsive and helpful in locating the baby travel cot available - much appreciated. You can tell there is a lot of love and pride in this special property (this is at odds with the management company’s communications). A great find.
Negative: Fresh Escapes who manage the property have really terrible communications - the tone is off and lots of emails landed with generic inapplicable information or missing “insert here” type gaps, excessive information and formatting which makes it hard to work out what is important and not. The property could do with a deep clean (under/behind beds for instance), shower is a wet room affair but we really couldn’t find a way to shower without covering the entire room in water despite best efforts.
Summary: Secluded, excellent value slice of relaxation in a beautiful location

Positive: Very nice property. I loved the kitchen. Everything was thought out so well. Design was so nice. Everything was so functional, easy to use and beautiful. Location was close to the town and some other interesting sights nearby. Wood fired hot tub was a bit of work but was fun to use. It is nice to have an outdoor kitchen area so we could even continue our barbecue here when it started drizzling. Very nice place to stay.
Negative: Letting agency asks too many personal details and they want this info and some other critical details are to be entered into an online website. I wasn't comfortable with this as this day and age, a small website like theirs can easily be hacked and this info could get stolen. I found this very unnecessary and intrusive. In reality if there is a damage to the house there is nothing they can do with the info provided. It was an unnecessary, intrusive and to be honest annoying requirement. If they are worried about a damage, it would be wiser to get some deposit and return it later on.
