Summary: My wife and I was hunting a cottage for two in and around the Peak District and came across the boathouse, after viewing the pictures and using the map to spy out the local area we booked. We was definitely not disappointed, Nigel (the owner ) was a legend and after some abrupt change of plans on my part he managed to work us in so we didn’t lose the booking and all was set. Us being us turned up super early and we was allowed to park up so we could lunch at the Devonshire Arms which is a cheeky couple of minutes walk away. Upon his text that all was good, we made our way to the boathouse and on first impressions I found the pictures didn’t do it any justice at all. An extremely well planned out and well provisioned dwelling, big living area that contained the kitchen, dining and two sofas,, a small corridor housed a compact separate toilet and then though with a bedroom that had a door opening to the lake and hot tub and was served by an en-suite. A conservatory was built onto the living area that again had sofas and the main tv and streaming devices. This again lead out to the lake and outside seating area via a decked area. Now, we shall get into the bit I loved, it was in no means a modern habitat, but it was the quirky, eclectic and eccentric way this boathouse has been decorated and fashioned via Nigel’s eye. The jukebox wasn’t a dummy and a joy to use and to play vinyl singles again was a dream, plus all the other paraphernalia he has acquired to make this place a place to remember. Now we didn’t use the kitchen facilities to cook, we was only here for three nights, we twice ate at the Devonshire arms (recommended highly and would say to book,) and the other we used the justeat app to deliver a takeaway of which there is an ample choice of menus that will cover a great deal of choices. You are in a very small village and the only time we walked was to the pub, I’m not sure on a local shop as we took our own provisions. But it gave us a good base to the tour a few places we had planned to visit. Would we come back? Definitely and have told everyone we know to come here too. It’s a perfect getaway from it all, great WiFi and ample hot water plus a feeling of safety that’s hard to come by. Thanks Nigel PS wait till he shows you how to feed the fish, I bet they gained massive amounts of weight on our trip because it was still unbelievable to watch. Also we apologise if they need to go on a diet now lol.

Summary: We had a lovely time at the boat house. The house itself is small but has everything you need, and I mean everything! I had been looking forward to having my morning coffee in the conservatory with the doors opened, and when I did it was perfect! Plenty for the kids do to outside, even a little sandpit for the younger children. We didn’t fish but enjoyed feeding the trout and using the boats. The owner Nigel is close by but ensured we had plenty of privacy. Can definitely recommend this place, 10 out of 10.

Excellent standard in cleanliness, quirky interior decor, fabulous view, nature and wildlife galore. Nigel the owner is very friendly and informative. We wanted to escape from it all and at the boathouse we certainly did. We will definitely return.
