Positive: The room was fresh and very well appointed. The bed was comfortable and the coffee was great. I visited the pub on two occasions and found the staff and food exceptional.
Negative: I was concerned by the appearance of the building’s exterior. But when I walked in the door all my reservations disappeared. The room was exactly as presented in the online photos!
Summary: I enjoyed every aspect of my experience at the Flying Steamshovel Inn!

Positive: Great location at the north end of the downtown area. Easy free parking on the street to the side. Straight forward virtual check in (room number/code emailed). Spacious, tasteful, well equipped and very clean room. Comfortable bed, good shower. Pub downstairs has friendly staff, great food and good hours.
Negative: Digital keypad on the door was a bit unresponsive at first but worked with few vigorous taps. Bit of noise from the road in the morning, didn't trouble me but might some. AC unit worked well but was a little noisy.

Positive: The room was very clean and modern, everything worked well. Could have slept 4 in comfort. AC was great! Nice to have a fridge stocked with cream for my coffee (which was also provided) Having actual glass to drink out of was also nice. Plenty of towels for the capacity of the room!
Negative: No accessible plugs near the bed. if there had been 4 we would have fought over the one small 2-cup pot of coffee (as a single person it was fine).
Summary: It was very good. Comfy bed, good shower.

Positive: We were here for one night after our drive from Banff. I reached out to them earlier to see if we could arrange an earlier check in and they were fantastic to offer us a 2pm check in. Communication leading up to our arrival was great. They were quick to respond and provided thorough check in instructions as there is no lobby/reception with a physical person greeting you. You are provided a code to enter your room. Using the code to enter your room was easy with no issues. The room was large and very comfortable. It was great that the bedroom also had a sofa bed/sofa. A fridge, microwave and coffee machine. The coffee provided was fantastic. Bathroom is large and spacious also. Plenty of space to hang your clothes etc. Also had a heater/air conditioner in the main room and a heater in the bathroom.
Negative: Cons: The accomodation is located above their gastro pub and we were told on the day about a punk rock band that would be playing that evening. I would have thought out of courtesy when they knew the bands were booked they contact guests that had booked in advance to give them the option to move elsewhere. We were told the morning of our booking. I booked this accomodation so far ahead that I would not think an establishment would be having a gig on a Wednesday night. Even speaking to a local earlier in the day they found it odd also. The hotel response when I asked about the noice level travelling upstairs - I received this - ‘The floors are sound insulated, however there will be some sound from the show for sure. The show will run from 9:30 to 12am this evening’. The floors are not insulated!! We would hear loud and clear every word and every beat. The band continued beyond midnight!! Whilst at dinner one of the staff members also offered ear plugs if required. We had ear plugs and they achieved nothing to drown out the noise. As you can imagine a punk/rock band!! Some may be wondering how the level of sound carried to the accomodation above. Check prior whether they have gigs booked as the sound certainly travels to the rooms. We could hear everything quite clearly. I’m an extremely light sleeper and even with ear plugs you could still hear the bands. Hardly slept and we had a 7 hour drive the next day to Vancouver. The TV in the room was mounted far too high on the wall if you were sitting on the couch you need to be looking up at the TV monitor. It’s not so bad if you’re on the bed. Whilst the accomodation is all based upstairs, note that there is no lift in the building and you are required to go up two flights of stairs so this may be challenging for some if you have heavy luggage. Car parks are on the street or across the road from the hotel. Whilst it is free, they are not secured or under cover.
Summary: Check if they have a band booked. You won’t get sleep otherwise. No noise insulation at all and only told the morning o
