Positive: The room was fine and clean and the bed was of a really good size. Tea and coffee was available. The Hotel itself seemed fine. There is plenty of parking and whilst I didn't use the bar myself there seemed to be a very good selection. We didn't stay for breakfast or dinner.
Negative: We booked two rooms, one direct and one through Booking.com as that was the last on the site. One was for my wife and I and one for my son. We were attending a wedding not far away and contacted the hotel to enquire about an early check in for one of the rooms to avoid having to travel from home the 75 minute journey in our wedding outfits. On arrival where we had half an hour before needing to leave we were asked to wait in the lounge for 10 mins despite there not being anyone else waiting and then checked in. We were advised that because we would be at the wedding and so could not be back to check in between 2.30 and 10.30pm on the second room we would have to pay the early check-in fee of £20 each for the two rooms. Whilst I appreciate this may be standard, this need to be made clear as both rooms were ready and available and in the many many hotels I have stayed in on business if the rooms have been ready we have been permitted to check in without additional cost. I really can't see why we couldn't have had both keys at 12.15pm instead of 2.30pm and paid one lot of £20 max. Ultimately, if you are attending a wedding you need to add £20 (£40 in our case) to the cost of your stay. The room itself was fine however the hotel sits on a main road and so traffic from 6am is loud enough to wake you if you are at the front of the hotel.
Summary: Nice enough but add £20 for early check-in for all day Weddings.

Positive: Check in was easy and friendly enough although see my comments later about taking copies of ID. The room and bathroom were clean. We had dinner in the bar and the food was very nice. I had a burger and my partner had the homemade chicken korma. The breakfast was nice - full English. There were packets of Yorkshire tea in the bedroom and the Sauvignon Blanc was of a nice quality. The owner has a lovely black dog and my partner likes to pet animals so she liked that. There are photos of him in the reception area.
Negative: Noise: It's a pub and our bedroom was right over the bar so it was quite noisy after we went to bed at around 10.30pm. Our room overlooked a busy road so there was quite a lot of traffic noise although the secondary double glazing helped with this. Staff: The staff seemed a little unsure about what they were doing at times eg at breakfast and having to chase for toast, my partner wanted something for dinner which he ordered and was then told was not in stock whereas you are normally told before that x isn't available. If you were drinking tea there was no milk jug to take to the table you had to pour your tea and then bring the milk jug next to the coffee and pour your milk and then return it. Maintenance: My partner wanted to sit on the sofa outside and it was hot and sunny and she wanted to put the the umbrella up but two of them didn't have the pin available to fix them in place. The people who I then understood to have bought the property looked at them couldn't get them to stay up either. In the bathroom there was only half a lock on the door - not necessary but it was noted. There was oddly only one glass in the bathroom. The toilet seat didn't stay up. The bed sagged somewhat when pressed as you got out of bed although you didn't feel anything when you were sleeping. It was just a bit tired. There are old awards hanging on the walls and old copies of beer and hotel guides hanging around. Damage deposit: I had to pay a £25.00 damage deposit which was refunded on departure after they had checked the room. That made me wonder what type of people stay there. ID: On checking in I also had to give my driving license and a copy was taken of this. This is the first time this has ever happened to me in a UK hotel. I find this an uncomfortable practice. There was no one there to check us out otherwise I would have asked for it back.
Summary: A just about passable experience

Positive: Breakfast was fine and came out quickly and was nice and hot . Bed was comfy and the room nice and clean .
Negative: As we had booked 5 rooms we were disappointed that we all had to pay 20.00 to check in an hour early as we were arriving back after the wedding at gone midnight we felt we had no choice so we could get changed and also have a key to get in as apparently no night porter , a lot of money for nothing as I can imagine the rooms were all ready anyway bit of a rip off 100.00 between us and we only got checked in about 20past /half one and left at 1.55pm
Summary: Okay
