Positive: The place was conveniently located right by SH1, with a sauna. Fern lodge was actually nice and quiet, not at all disturbed by the traffic on the main artery route. Regrettably our experience, although good, was below the average high rating of the place, due to problems finding keys and inability to use the sauna.
Negative: Coincidentally, Steve was overseas so responded to questions could not reach us in time. The onsite contact person was very helpful and helped us solve an outage of hot water immediately. However he was not able to turn on the sauna, which we were not able to enjoy during the stay. Key arrangement was apparently solely relied on the previous lodger. When we arrived, the keys were not where they were according to the instructions. When we left, we placed the keys in the lockbox where we found them, which the guests after us were unable to find.

Negative: For us the bed was a bit too soft. The traffic noise all night was annoying and at times, when trucks went past, the cabin rattled/vibrated somewhat.

Positive: Lovely relaxed nature inspired green decor with natural light elements. Peaceful & serene. Location close to the Lake & our hike. Great sauna. Good amenities including bathroom fan & subtle light on vanity mirror. Relaxed outdoor seating area. Very well informed correspondence.
Negative: Very minor thing to know is that you carry your bags up some stairs. Not a big deal though.

Positive: My husband and I stayed at The Grove Turangi for 4 nights. It was amazing. Property has everything you need to feel like home. Super comfy beds, more than enough of space to store your clothing in both bedrooms. Shower with great pressure. Kitchen’s got everything you need to cook a meal. Living space with two sofas and a smartTV to watch a show and relax. Aircon is there as well to make sure the temperature inside as per your liking. Outdoor area is beautiful and well maintained to enjoy birds singing and surrounding. My husband used the sauna and said it was fantastic. The fact that we were just two and place has two bedrooms was amazing because we did sleep separately one night after completing alpine crossing so we can both relax and just sleep in (haha). Location was perfect for us being so close to Tongariro park to enjoy hikes and walks. Only about 30-40 mins of driving to the tracks. And close to Taupo as well. Thank you for this wonderful stay and I highly recommend this place to anyone who is travelling to the area.
